We stopped for Sunday lunch which was a terrible experience, the promise of a Sunday Roast with all the trimmings and more definitely ttom ua by surprise.
The food was tepid at best and definitely didn't live up to even the most lacklustre meal, I think a better meal could be made on a camping stove! Not only was it cold but even the pre-requisites weren't in attendance and we were given raw carrots & cabbage as part of the meal (it was a roast, surely the name alludes to the method of preparation). We suspected that the "roast spuds" had in fact been cooked in a deep fat frier.
We'd also ordered a side order of chips for the kids and these weren't so much as deep fat fried but had, had a long bath... three chips managed to turn the serviette translucent and they left an oily sheen in your mouth.
All in all a woeful experience that we will never repeat again unless purely for a laugh, the cost of a "roast" was also £9.95 which ordinarily is very reasonable however for what was served to us, it was a blatant rip off. the pub itself was quite grotty and despite sitting inside the pub we shared our meal with at least six wasps that were flying around our table alone.
I must say that we did see the majority of the patrons in the George in Alstonefield afterwards which offered much better surroundings, food and beer. "

My partner and I (and our small daughter of 7) always make a detour when walking in the area to visit the Watts Russell Arms because of the incredibly friendly atmosphere and really amazing food, which is always fresh and delicious; the staff are always willing to prepare a small portion for our daughter. I have just joined pub utopia and the Watts was the first place I looked up. It may be a little rundown by swanky London gastro-pub standards, but hey, this is in the middle of walking country with stacks of atmosphere, warm and welcoming. "

The food is not the usual pre packaged pub trash, but wholesome homemade cuisine that has you comming back for more, the price? what do you expect, perfection does not come cheap! child friendly? I have two well behaved children (both under 10)who were made very welcome, would i take a toddler? No i'd go to macdonalds. This pub caters for those who enjoy GOOD food, good drink and a peacefull setting. My praise goes to the owners who seem determined not to spoil it."
