"We visited the Cock Inn today while staying at Greenfields caravan site down the road.
We were greeted with a very warm welcome and some fantastic "real ale" ...Despite arriving almost at the close of them serving food we ordered with no problems and a smile .
I had a delicious "Hunters chicken" while my partner had "sizzling" Cajun chicken,Both meals arrived quickly despite being cooked to order and were thoroughly delicious ...We will definitely be returning as the place is a credit to the Landlord and the staff that run the place .
Big thumbs up from both of us and well done . "

"As manager of the Cock Inn I would like to respond to vandemaar's comments. Firstly that the accent he heard from the person serving him was a local accent and in this area is the norm. Secondly we didn't have any steak & ale pies due to them being popular and that any issues he has with whoever awarded the award winning pies title he should take up with Dean's pies and considering his is the first complaint we have had about Dean's pies!(he didn't wait about to be asked if he would like anything else as I think they had only come to pick spots due to the review)and commenting on the lasagne being dry pasta with mince is rubbish as we have also never had a complaint about the lasagne. We get very few complaints at all about the food and customers are normally asked if everything is alright as we encourage feedback about meals. Thirdly dogs are allowed in the pub and we generally have quite a few in at most times as people like to bring their dogs when they have been walking or staying at the caravan park down the road.So again this is a first for us. And last but not least we take on board the comment about the waitress and she has been spoken to and as such hope that in future this won't happen again as we prefer our staff to be friendly and polite which is normally the case anyway.

"After reading the article in Barnsley today we decided to give it a try.Twenty minutes after ordering Deans award winning steak and ale pie we were told "We ent any left but meat and tatie's just same but wi potatoes on top",this ordered we waited for our second choice. I can only say it was the worst "award winner" I have tasted, very (and I do mean very)little meat but full of small diced potatoe,no gravy inside and soggy crust,I have never left as much food. When asked "Was it all right",I pointed out the failings of the pie,the waitrees walked away without a word or backward glance. My wife tried Lasagne which turned out to be a dry lump of pasta with minced beef.Vicky Holmes must have dropped on far better food to give the place her review and I do not believe it correct to serve food with dogs in the room, our first and certainly last visit."

"Hi tonyhough,I belive the pub has recently had a face lift, are the brass`s going back up ? I dont know. Time will tell on that one.
Dont eat there myself, so carn`t comment on food, (carn`t afford to eat out these days)
Shame you carn`t make quiz night though, it is a good night. You would enjoy it.
The Travellers on the main road at Birdwell has also had a face lft and reopened. They have a good quiz night on Wednesdays, get your mates to try that one, they wont be disappointed."

"Went to the cock inn last friday with some friends. We were all very dissapointed. All the ornaments have gone. Twelve pounds for a steak is expensive and when it arrived it was very poor.
I need to go on a thursday as that seams to be the night but I can not get my friends to go as they all disliked the pub so much."
