On 26-1-2012 sidpub said : "What a disgrace. Poor service - workmen all over the place - clutter on the bar and the food was dreadful. The pork - just under £13- had about 50p worth of food. This place is an absolute disgrace to the good name of British pubs. Avoid it at all costs."

On 02-5-2011 swanniemod said : "my partner and i went for a meal at the royal oak gorley today, the service was poor, the pub was dirty and the paint and wood staining was awful , some parts unfinished, we waited 45mins for our food, when it came i needed a chainsaw to cut the lamb and my partner sent back her homemade lasagne as the top separated from the bottom and we could of used it as a frizby, the meat was minced almost to a pulp, not even sure it was beef of mutton, it was sent back, we were asked if we wanted anything else, we refused anything else and left, it was trully awful, even the young barman was being trained on a sunday afternoon, and the drink was not as asked for and the staff didn,t know where the pudding list was until the waiter looked in the menu, " its in the menu" he told us! well there you go, what a suprise! i couldn,t give a single star for anything, we should of read the signs, we noticed another couple having their food taken back , alas we has already ordered. we could not even say we would only be paying for what we ate as you have to pay up front, do yourself a favour and when you get near this pub, keep going! I am pleased to inform that the bar has been cleaned up and painted and a lot more is being done to improve the pub and beer garden generally. They have a new chef and are now offering a good, value for money, comprehensive menu. I have eaten there recently and the food was excellent. My only observation was, that having had a starter I could barely struggle through my main course. The real ales currently on offer are Sharp's Doombar, Adnam's Broadside, Ringwood Best and Ringwood Fortyniner, all of which are usually in very good condition. The pub is dog friendly and is popular with walking & cycling groups. The natives are generally friendly too. "

While we were sat waiting for our meal I couldnt help notice how dirty the place was, there are cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and all around the windows, which was offputting! When the food arrived I was so upset to find the beef totally raw! I know beef should be a bit pink but this was raw! We couldnt cut through it with the knife supplied as the veins that ran through it were stringy and the meat was dark red. I had 3 small potatoes and a tiny side dish with veg along with a yorkshire pudding and some stuffing?? We also had some Horseradish Sauce which (after I had eaten some) I realised was out of date! This has upset me as i work hard for my money and this was inedible!! At £9 a meal it was also well overpriced, I did tell the waitress and she apologised but that was all!! AVOID THIS PLACE!! We went on to The Alice Lisle and had a wonderful meal, it really makes you never want to try somewhere different, which is a real shame!"

On 24-8-2005 jikol said : "A good little rural pub offering a selction of well-kept real ales, good food large garden with occasional outdoor events. Lounge bar very comfy, overly large tables and chairs in the general purpose bar detract from its appeal. Pet and child friendly. A wooden gate keeps the horses, mules, donkies and cattle from venturing in from the car parking area. Fold your wing-mirrors in - they can get used as rubbing posts in this rural setting."

On 23-2-2004 yateley said : ""When mighty roast beef was the Englishman's food It ennobl'd our veins and enriched our blood Our soldiers were brave and our courtiers were good Oh! The roast beef of Old England, and Old English roast beef." Only in this case it was the finest Scottish beef washed down with local "Landlord" ale. Search this one out."
