started to chat to the locals about my music tastes and the beers started to flow..accepted the piss take about my country England and laughed along... then one guy gets up and plays ..."

It's just that from the outside it doesn't look like a pub - more a pool or snooker club.
Also usually when I pass by there's a bouncer or bouncers on the door - is that really necessary on Byres Road?

Homeless hostels nearby provide it with customers but any sign of trouble is sorted-out very quickly indeed.
