I often go to Fibber McGees because it is one of the most friendly bars in Lancaster. Having lived in Lancaster for the past 7 years Ive been to most of the pubs and bars around. Fibber's is a little gem. Yes the toilets are in need of some tlc, and its tatty in places, but the atmosphere and decent music (day - 60's type stuff, and night - a DJ) really makes up for it.
Ive had food here a few times and its always been good, but usually I pop in here during the day for a glass of wine whilst my wife's out shopping. Back in the day this was not a particularly great place because yes...some of the customers were not great. However now id say its a real community pub and I get the impression they've worked quite hard to get rid of the undesirables and give it a bit of a face lift. I don't think unnecessarily offensive comments do anyone any good, and I think the last comment says more about the person writing it than this pub.
Its a real mixture of people who seem to go in here, from early 20's to 80+ years.
The selection of drinks are much of a muchness, but I do know that their Guinness, some wines, and whichever ales they have on (I think they change them round quite often) are usually particularly good.
I get fed up of pubs in Lancaster who aren't your massive chains like wetherspoons etc getting panned. With places like Fibber's you get a nice pint, good food and a friendly people to chat to. To me thats what a good pub is about."

I often go here for lunch on my lunchbreak at work with a few friends. As a small group of women I find this pub very non-threatening and comforting to eat.
Over the last few years the quality (and quantity!!) of the food has been on the increase. They dont do fancy, but they do great homemade pies, chips and gravy. If you go for something lighter such as a sandwich or baguette they come with a really nice little side salad and always look yum. The best thing they do there (besides the huge portions of everything you know you shouldnt be eating!!) are the melt baguettes which are your choice of filling with melted cheese over the top....never been anywhere else that does them quite like this!!
Have been in on a weekend evening and it was very busy and definately not for those looking for a quiet drink and chat. If you fancy dancing around like a crazy person this is the place - young or old, everyone mixes and won't stare if your over 40! Decent mix of music too. Massive contrast to the calm atmosphere of a day time. Although Ive never been on a weeknight I have been told its much the same as during the day....pretty chilled and relaxed atmosphere.
The decor of this pub however makes it look a bit dingy and the toilets are very tired looking.
Having said this, this shouldnt put you off a trip here! This is not a pub for fine dining. This is a good old fashioned place where the chirpy welcoming atmosphere, that is sadly lacking from many pubs now, is well and truly alive. If your looking for good traditional pub grub which'll be served in lovely big portions, and a great atmosphere (mainly due to the lovely staff who alone make this pub worth going to) this is definately the one for you!"
