"The Park Hotel boasts of a great location and a very large building, which the pub seems to be making good use of in the past couple of years and growing from strength to strength. A beautiful beer garden in the back and a smaller one overlooking the main road at the front makes the perfect place to drink a cold beer in the English summer.
A Thwaites' pub, it is a perfect mélange of a traditional British community pub mixed with some really modern amenities and outlook. This is perhaps seen by the fact that the pub attracts both an older and local customer base, mixing perfectly with a bustling student population from Cumbria and Lancaster Uni, which can ensure a nice quiet drink on a weekday afternoon after work or a lively and boisterous Friday nights. More importantly, they have a large function room with an attached bar, which often attract parties or DJ night sort of things.
The staff, I've observed, are both knowledgeable and helpful. Most locals treat the bar staff as one of their own. They seemed to have now formed a nice enterprising management team, which constantly comes up with interesting promotions and ideas. There's a decent range of lagers, but being an ale drinker, I can vouch for the quality of Wainwrights(Thwaites) and the seasonal guest they have on.
The food's very decently priced with student discounts most of the time and the quality is incommensurable. All in all, I would definitely continue going to this pub, and moreover would recommend the place to any other person interested in a good pub with quality beers at reasonable prices. "

"This pub is becoming a "Juice Bar" for the first two weeks of April. Licensing problems? Or an attack of the vapours?
This is an utter waste of a pub which should be a gold mine, at the very front door of the University of Cumbria (er, yes, that bit of Cumbria that is off St Oswald St., Lancaster). It's not been right for years, and needs someone to take it by the scruff of the neck and make it be the thriving place it should be."
