"winner of camra pub of the year for Liverpool. Easy to see why, 12 varied ales on the bar during my visit. Bar staff where friendly and helpful and the clientele was a good mix of ages. Didn't hear any swearing or unruly behaviour during my late afternoon/early evening visit. Personally I prefer the unspoilt traditional pubs in Liverpool such as The White Star and Lion Tavern or the Phil but it's hard to argue with 12 real ales."

"Great pub for real ale enthusiasts and those wishing to to escape the mega-decibel city centre pubs. No dukebox or music of any kind - just a good old fashioned, art-deco style pub with good beer where you provide your own entertainment.
Usually a good dozen or so real ales, numerous lagers and a choice of ciders plus a full menu of continental bottled beers.
Located at the start of Dale St (tunnel end) it is ideally situated for travellers by car (parking over the road), train (Moorfields or Lime St) and bus.
Basic food is served through to early evening (may be up to 9pm) - burgers, pasta, etc.
I've been a regular for a number of years and whilst it is now a very popular haunt for a huge cross section (ie not just real ale lovers) it is disappointing that management now seem to put profit before ambience.
On too many occassions the pub now has a hostile feel to it with far too much swearing and drunkenness. To this end it is rapidly turning it's back on the qualities that made it a popular haunt for a solid 'fan-base', many of whom won't be there for support when the more fickle visitors currently providing the numbers move on."
