On 30-11-2004 boycie said : "In all the year's of drinking in this area, I can't remember a time when this was a good pub. From the outside, with its various interesting architectural features and flower baskets, the 'Hive' looks to all the world like a Hampstead licensed restaurant but once inside the thirsty drinker is in for a shock. The place is dirty, bland, uninviting and staffed with unhelpful barpersons. Unfortunately, it is a mile-and-a-half walk to the nearest decent hostelry - The Rising Sun, Eltham (or perhaps The Black Boy, Avery Hill)."
