"The second time we have been there for a meal. The pub is tidy and clean and clearly well run.
The staff know the (mature) clientel very well- most were welcomed by name and obviously felt very much at home.
At one stage the banter between customer and staff at a table next to us stopped our conversation dead. The waitress told a client if he didn't like it to go and eat elsewhere. I'm sure many pople would find that amusing but (because I'm old and a misery, says my wife) I found it a little intrusive. Overall the service was good but not quick. I would certainly go there again but I'm not sure it would be a "first" choice."

"we visited for a family meal, and the food was great and table service ok. They were obviously very busy, and seemed a bit short staffed maybe? What was a shame though was that having booked for a special family meal out starting at 1pm, when we came to order dessert it was 2.35pm and we were told we were too late as food was served until 2.30pm. Given we had a wait for our main course that seemed a bit 'jobs worth'. Apparently there was a bell/message, but we dodn't hear it as we were chatting etc. and hadn't been to the pub before to know. Most pubs will let you order to complete your meal even after new orders are stopped.Shame really, as otherwise the food and atmosphere were lovely and in a lovely seting."

"Yet another two years on, almost, and I have no reason to change my view. It's still well worth a visit even though I would prefer to see a wider range of drinks. The menu choice is more than adequate and very good. If you like cheese and biscuits instead of sweet go for that, you get a VERY good portion of three cheeses."

"Revisiting 2 years on, 4th November 2006, this pub is still as accommodating and attentive as ever. Excellent range of good food, and more than enough choice of drink. And yet prices are still very middle of the range. Go on, visit it. It's also dog friendly - in the bar area only."

"This pub is ALWAYS one of our favourites when visiting the New Forest and competes with another excellent pub, The Bell, just across the road. The range of food and drink is excellent and the prices very competitive, which probably why the pub is nearly always packed out. Very well worth a visit."
