On 23-9-2011 gingermarble said : "Visisted Crown and Kettle 22.9.11. Indebted to previous reviewer for background i.e. built as a Law Courts explains the internal architecture. Very friendly atmosphere, listed in the 2012 GBG. Beers included Ruby Tuesday cider but I stuck to the cask ales. Spot on with a service to match. Three roomed pub but punters generally gathered in the main bar area. Very comfortable middle and vault rooms available. Suspect gets busy at weekends. Highly recommended."

On 23-3-2007 millay said : "An interesting looking pub at the end of Oldham St in the Northern Quarter that I seemed to have missed on previous visits. On walking inside I was convinced that it was a converted church due to the arched and leaded windows, and the high decorative ceiling, albeit most of the latter had been destroyed. However I was to find that the building has been a licensed premises since the 18th Century and it's decorative nature is due to the fact that it was originally designed to be Law Courts. Unfortunately much of its beauty has now gone due to a fire that gutted the building some years ago. The shell is still there but it now gives a strange impression of a pub built within a building. As well as the main front bar there is a vault bar and a small comfortable snug. Since reopening it now gets regular mentions in the CAMRA newsletters for both the quality and selection of real ale. There were four pumps on when we were there and both beers we tried were excellent. The problem was we only found it an hour before our train was due so couldn't stay as long as we would have liked. This pub will definitely be on the list on my next visit to Manchester. "
