There are normally 4 cask ales on tap, one of them a mild, as well as a couple of lagers and Guinness. The beers are guest "real" ales from all over the country, many of them Champions in their own right. The landlord, Ian Smeeton, takes great pride in his beer and the pub carries the Cask Marque seal of quality.
The Plough is host to much of the village's social life and hosts all manner of local functions as well as running darts, dominoes and 2 quiz teams. The regulars are of all ages from 2 to 80 (yes, it's a child-friendly and dog-friendly pub). They're a cheerful bunch and visitors are sure of a good welcome.
The food is all home-made (no boil in a bag stuff here!) and freshly prepared, mainly from local produce. The style is British farmhouse cooking at its best, the portions are huge and it's very reasonably priced. It's very popular locally and can only take 24 or so covers, so you'd be best to call and book your table beforehand. Smokers are quite well catered for.
Downsides? Well, the beer prices tend to be higher than average for the area, but not excessively so. Another problem is that the situation of the pub makes it impossible to provide easy wheelchair access. Public transport is pretty non-existant and it's quite difficult to obtain a taxi at the weekend unless you book early.
If those caveats don't concern you, then I'd highly recommend a visit - you won't be disappointed, and you may well find yourself becoming one of those regulars... as I did 9 years ago!
