"Ok pub, drinks over-priced, food very overpriced, they pass you in the pub carrying the bags of frozen food that is obviously fried/re-heated. I asked for extra gravy and was told no, not the best customer service, but nice pub, nice location, sort your food out and would be great"

"After a hard and long drive up from london on a friday night we decided to call into the travellers rest for our evening meal.i ordered the chilli with cheese and my partner went for the sirlion steak.our order was taken by a very friendly and attentive barman. The chilli was spot on and was served with chips and salad.my partners steak which was fell bread was cooked to perfection. "We were looking forward to a home cooked meal after a cold wet day in june!
When we entered the pub it was like that scene from the film american werewolf in london, everyone turned and stared and the whole place went quiet! we persevered and ordered a drink. The bartender was foreign and didnt even look at us when we ordered...we should have stopped there. i ordered the "homemade chilli" from the specials board. When it came it was basically tinned mince with too much chilli powder thrown in to mask the taste and a few chilli beans in to make it look like chilli. Tinned mince has an awful smell as anyone unfortunate enough to have eaten it will know and yep it was awful. When i told the waitress quietly and descretely how i felt, i was told loudly in front of whole pub " i dont know what you are talking about its not tinned mince" she left without another word leaving me red faced and very uncomfortable. I didnt eat any of the chilli as it was totally inedible, the mince was ground into a baby food type paste, not the normal texture of mince. she returned 10 mins later not to offer me a refund or another choice from the menu, but to loudly tell me once again she had checked and it was not tinned mince. The other insult to injury is that the terrible food had cost £9.00 each, that was the worst bit. I would reccomend any other pub in glenridding except this one. Very disappointing food for a inflated price."

"We stayed at the local campsite last weekend-this is the nearest pub.
Inside is quite small so make sure to arrive early for food, however there are tables outside.
The food is pub grub but it was tasty, well presented and very welcome after a long day walking. My companions recommended the crumble and custard.
The main reason for reviewing this is we were surprised to find we were the only party in for breakfast - apparently a burger van now takes most of the business. What a shame! - the full english was great and so much better than a van.
