On 13-10-2007 braveheart said : "i visited the Hamilton Russell Arms with my family in september and found the pub to be excellent. The ambience, service and food all met a very high standard. You can eat by candlelight and the background music is perfect for the mood. The meals are superb value for money although we did have a bit of a wait, but it was worth it. There were three different real ales to choose from and I had the Sweet Chariot which was crystal clear and well kept. Our little girl was given some crayons and a colouring book while we waited for our meals. What a cracking pub. Thankyou to all the staff who made our night so pleasant. We will be returning soon."

This also seemed to apply to the small pieces of rabbit, hard and crunchy!!!the vegetables were not too bad.My Wife and Son ordered the Cod and chips, said the fish was fine, however the chips were very thick,to enable them to be re-heated a number of times and these obviously had, being dark brown, over cooked.Bar staff, Waitress not particularily friendly"

On 04-9-2005 ragworth said : "I visited the Hamilton Russell Arms in Thorpe Thewles for lunch today with my wife and my mother. We arrived at about 1:35 p.m., ordered drinks and placed an order for three sandwiches and a plate of chips. We ordered two wraps - one Cajun chicken and one Peking duck - and what was listed as roast beef and gravy on a crusty roll. We waited about half an hour before inquiring about our food. The very friendly staff told us they would ask what was happening in the kitchen. After another 15 minutes, we inquired again. This time we were told that all food is cooked to order and takes 40-45 minutes. I reminded them that we had in fact ordered sandwiches and not a cooked meal. Finally, our waitress told us that the food would be out in five minutes. Almost ten minutes later our food arrived. The "crusty roll" was a stodgy, undercooked limp bun - not at all what my mother had expected. The tortilla for the Peking duck wrap was far too voluminous for the meagre contents and both wraps were impossible to hold and eat as sandwiches, which is what they were supposed to be. Since the setting is charming and the wait staff pleasant, it is a great pity that they are not matched by the quality of the food and the time needed to serve it. James Lee "
