On 25-2-2008 denisecurtis said : "Visted this pub on a weekday so wasn't surprised that it was very quiet. Menu is extensive, especially the specials menu. Dissapointing that you order at the bar and not a waitress service as the meals aren't cheap. The specials and the main menu are on boards which cannot be seen from many of the tables in the main eating area. You have to get up and go and look at the menus, then go up to the bar to order and then after seating ourselves even had to go up to the bar again, to get a wine menu. Very poor choice of wines and the South African wine we chose came out as an Australian, although it was ok. We chose a soup, prawn cocktail, venison with a redberry jus and pheasant with another sauce. The soup was too salty the prawn cocktail although unexciting was ok. The venison was thin and over cooked and was swimming in an immense amount of gravy. The pheasant looked and tasted like it had been cooked at least early that day or was it the day before and reheated. it was stringy and dry and again floating in a gravy. A small dish between two of us with some extremely boring over cooked veg accompanied it. The specials are £11.95 each so for this cost we were expecting something special! unfortunatley not. Did inform the waitress that the pheasant which i left was dry and couldn't be eaten but we had no acknowledgement of our comment. The meal came to £53 was worth no more than £25 at a push and was the most disappointing meal we've had in a long long time. "

Drinks and wine good value and good service; however, food was disappointing. We selected from the specials menu and the regular menu; sirloin steak and mixed grill were dry and meat of poor quality for the price. Taste just not there. Perch was smothered in tomato sauce made from tinned tomatoes, which just did not complement the dish, far too overpowering.Chicken supreme was also uninspiring. Such a pity; it is a lovely pub."
