This user has reviewed the following pubs:

Guildford Pubs : The Royal Oak pub in Guildford
'If you're visiting the castle or their beautiful gardens, this is best value for money in the immediate vicinity. From a personal point of view, not quite my style but it's one of the better pubs in Guildford town center. Tourists, easily accessed from the top of the High Street or the multi story car park next door.'
Report

Clapham Pubs : Coach & Horses pub in Clapham near Worthing
'Built in about 1710 as a coaching inn on what is now the A27, this pub is located on the west bound carriageway between the A24 (1 mile) and the A280 (2 miles). In terms of the bar, they appear to set the very highest of standards. On the food side, I can only describe it as full restaurant standard at prices just a little above traditional pub grub. As for their staff, totally professional in all respects. For any cynics that may think I have a personal interest in this pub, no I'm just an ordinary customer who respects the hard work done by others to achieve something considerably better than the norm.'
Report

Worthing Pubs : The North Star pub in Worthing
'An older pub that's been fully modernised by Ember Inns, excellent (ordinary) pub-grub, wide and varying range of beers, easy parking and a decent garden. At present it's run by a bright young Scot named Grant. To the tourist, located on the 2032 west of Worthing, one of the few decent pubs in the area.'
Report

Alfold Pubs : The Three Compasses pub in Alfold near Cranleigh
'One of the better country pubs, very good food and ale at surprisingly decent prices. To the tourist, worth finding, it's located just south of the River Wey/Arun Canal and Dunsfold Aerodrome, both of which have interesting histories.'
Report

Chilworth Pubs : The Percy Arms pub in Chilworth near Guildford
'This pub is 'high end of the market' in all respects and leans more to restaurant than pub.'
Report

Kirdford Pubs : Foresters Arms pub in Kirdford near Billingshurst
'A proper country pub located in the small village of Kirdford outside of Petworth. Well worth a visit if in the area and they don't 'rip visitors off' unlike most tourist traps around Petworth.'
Report

Puttenham Pubs : The Good Intent pub in Puttenham near Guildford
'A 'must visit' for all visitors to the area. Possibly one of the last great bastions of the traditional English pub to be found in the South.'
Report

Barnham Pubs : The Murrell Arms pub in Barnham near Bognor Regis
'Truly a time-warp, to visit this pub's Stable Bar with all its memorabilia is an experience not to be missed. They also have an Auction Room in the garden!!'
Report

Loxwood Pubs : The Sir Roger Tichbourne pub in Loxwood near Billingshurst
'This pub is now closed (sadly)'
Report

Goring-By-Sea Pubs : The Mulberry pub in Goring-By-Sea near Worthing
'Very much a sports bar but they do have one of the best pub gardens in the area. On the food side, not bad and very competitively priced. It's big advantage is that it's only a few hundred meters up from the seafront and parking is easy.'
Report

Goring-By-Sea Pubs : The Sussex Yeomans pub in Goring-By-Sea near Worthing
'This pub is located on the 2032 2 miles west of Worthing. It's not bad, just too many 'eurofiz' lagers and a severe lack of real ale. On the food side of things, it may be 'fling & bring' but it's well cooked, presented superbly and very competitively priced - cheap.'
Report

Frimley Pubs : The Railway Arms pub in Frimley near Camberley
'An ordinary locals pub, friendly with an intelligent crowd, no bad behaviour for years that I can remember, Reasonably priced.'
Report

Frimley Green Pubs : The Wheatsheaf pub in Frimley Green near Camberley
'Possibly one of the finest food pubs in the area, the bar is also clean, airy and good value. Generally, they set the standard for others to follow. My only (small) criticism, it can be a bit of a squeeze in their car park.'
Report

East Molesey Pubs : The Poyntz Arms pub in East Molesey
'A better than average locals pub that specialises in live music and holds a superb 'Bikers' evening every Thursday. It's run by a proper landlady (Glad, who stands no nonsense from anyone) with her husband (Terry) and ably assisted by their daughter Anita. It was my local for three years and if there's one thing I miss....it's having a drink(s) on the patio on a summers evening!!'

Report

Storrington Pubs : The Anchor Inn Storrington Ltd. pub in Storrington near Pulborough

West Molesey Pubs : The Lord Hotham pub in West Molesey
'An interesting place for those who wish to study the more idiosyncratic characters amongst the human race!!'

West Molesey Pubs : The Royal Oak pub in West Molesey
'By far the best locals pub at this end of town, very good for ale, food, custom and pricing by local standards.'
Report

Westergate Pubs : Labour In Vain pub in Westergate near Chichester
'Now called The Island. More of a 'jazzy' food place now.'
Report

Bosham Pubs : The Anchor Bleu pub in Bosham near Chichester
'Situated right on the waters edge almost completely overlooking Bosham (Bozzam) Harbour. A bit on the pricey side but very nice. NB Tourists, fascinating history to this area (King Canute and all that etc...etc..) but parking can be awkward in high season. Above all, don't leave your car on the harbour road when the tide is due in !!'
Report

Bosham Pubs : The Berkeley Arms pub in Bosham near Chichester
'Very much the locals pub but clever tourists know this is actually best value for money around Bosham. It's a lot easier to park here as well. Ps, they do lovely sandwiches.'
Report

West Wittering Pubs : The Lamb Inn pub in West Wittering near Chichester
'Located on the main road to West Wittering, good all round value for money, easy parking and top class ales and pub-grub.'
Report

West Wittering Pubs : The Old House At Home pub in West Wittering near Chichester
'Not recommended, expensive, poor quality and located on one seriously dodgy bend.'
Report

Amberley Pubs : The Sportsman pub in Amberley near Arundel
'We had a Sunday lunch here recently, very good. Though located off the main road and through the village of Amberley, it's worth a visit if you're on a day out to the Industrial Museum as it's better value for money compared to anything else immediately available. ps. take a camera as the views of the Southdowns are stunning when seen from the dining room and patio. '
Report

Chichester Pubs : The Fox Goes Free pub in Chichester
'One of the very finest Downland pubs in this area for food and real ale. If you're a visitor to Goodwood racecourse or the racetrack, it's best value for money in this area. ps. be mindful of the low ceilings if your a bit on the tall side !!'
Report

Abinger Common Pubs : The Abinger Hatch pub in Abinger Common near Dorking
'Ahhh...there really is a little bit of old England left!!! Worth a visit but you will need some very accurate directions if you're new to the area or touring the Surrey Hills. ps. if you find out what they do with that huge red (retired) London bus in the narrow lanes of the Surrey Hills, please tell me!!'
Report

Ash Pubs : Dover Arms pub in Ash near Aldershot
'Small in size, huge in charachter. About the only decent pub left in this area now the Nightingale has metamorphosed itself into an Indian Restaurant.'
Report

Tilford Pubs : The Donkey pub in Tilford near Farnham
'Visited at Christmas, not good value, expensive, cramped and a horrible entrance/exit onto the main road. However, they do have a very wide menu for fish dishes and they do cook them properly.'
Report

Dunsfold Pubs : The Sun pub in Dunsfold near Godalming
'This pub is called The Sun. (poor value for money)'
Report

Llantwit Major Pubs : Kings Head Hotel pub in Llantwit Major
'The proper address for this pub is; East Street, Llantwit Major, South Glamorgan, CF61 1XY Tel: 01446 792697 Very good accommodation and a decent pub but book well ahead as this beautiful little town gets very busy in summer. To the teachers amongst you, it's got the oldest 'seat of learning' in Britain. The Atlantic College is also only 2 miles away. Best to look that up on the web. For further information on this little gem of a town, send me a message on this site.'
Report

Godalming Pubs : The Leathern Bottle pub in Godalming
'The full address of this pub is; The Leathern Bottle, 77, Meadrow, Farncombe, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 3JG Tel: 01483 425642 Good traditional ale, food and customers. There is a public car park next door or, park down Catteshall Lane opposite. '
Report

Bognor Regis Pubs : The Southdowns pub in Bognor Regis
'Now part of the Ember Inns estate and quite good for what it is. ps. if you get bored as a holiday maker in Bognor, this pub runs quite a lot of entertainment, the food is (unfortunately) 'fling & bring' but well cooked and cheap. Ales and lagers are well kept.'
Report

'Possibly the best Pub / restaurant on the Isle of Wight, could be considered a bit on the small side but superb value for money.'
Report

Briston Pubs : The John H Stracey pub in Briston near Melton Constable
'We stayed here a couple of years ago, very good pub, B&B and the food was superb. For tourists not looking for anything posh, it represents good value for money.'
Report

Guildford Pubs : The Kings Head pub in Guildford
'Located literally at the 'feet of the castle' and worth the 100 meters walk if you are a visitor to the castle or museum. The bar is nothing to 'write home about' but the food is decent and reasonably priced for Guildford!! This pub also has a lovely two-tier patio at the back which is ideal for lunch in summer.'
Report

Compton Pubs : The Harrow Inn pub in Compton near Guildford
'Sorry, over priced for what it is.'
Report

Compton Pubs : The Withies Inn Ltd. pub in Compton near Guildford
'A little bit of ye old England here, good all round and the finest service to be had anywhere but.....a tad pricey even by Surrey standards.'
Report

Blackheath Pubs : The Villagers pub in Blackheath near Guildford
'Not bad if you're touring the Surrey Hills but the last time I was there it needed a good tidy up. Too much clutter around the pub and garden. If this has been rectified, tell me and I'll ask the PubUtopia moderators to remove this review. ps about a year since my visit.'
Report

Albury Pubs : The William The Fourth pub in Albury near Guildford
'This pub is 2.5 miles from Albury in it's own hamlet - Little London. Well worth the trouble finding it, only the very best map-readers will succeed!!!'
Report

Worthing Pubs : John Selden pub in Worthing
'High quality pub, beautiful saloon bar with its beaten copper topped tables, memorabilia and superb range of ales. Food is slightly on the pricey side but in this area, you only get what you pay for.'
Report

Patching Pubs : The Fox pub in Patching near Worthing
'Not easy to find but worth the effort - particularly for food. Traditionally cooked, well kept ales and a good friendly customer base. Advice, get there early if you want lunch and a parking space at the week-end!!'
Report

Worthing Pubs : The Lamb Inn pub in Worthing
'Just about to change hands, and hopefully not into a block of flats!! One thing this new manager has achieved - the finest pint of Theakstones I've tasted in years.'
Report

Hambledon Pubs : Merry Harriers pub in Hambledon near Godalming
'Located off the main A285 between Milford and Chiddingfold, good quality village pub with a very good campsite opposite. Food, reasonably priced pub-grub and well kept ales. ps make sure you visit the (free) donkey sanctuary nearby at Sandhills.'
Report

Shackleford Pubs : The Cyder House Inn pub in Shackleford near Godalming
'This pub is - in my opinion - a bit over rated and slightly pretentious but each to their own I suppose. On the plus side, easy to reach from the A3 just north of Milford and has good parking. It also ceased to be a pure cyder house years ago.'
Report

Witley Pubs : The Star Inn pub in Witley near Godalming
'Located on the A285 just south of Milford, this pub has had some seriously memorable customers in its day - the late and great Terry Scott for one in the 'sixties' and early seventies. Nowadays, a good locals pub that does good food at reasonable prices. Recommendation, better value than anything you will get in Petworth.'
Report

Hascombe Pubs : The White Horse pub in Hascombe near Godalming
'Located in one of the prettiest villages in Surrey, top class food, ale, parking but....at least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask !! Take your (extended) credit card with you, no one owns a wallet or handbag big enough for paying in cash here!!'
Report

Blackwater Pubs : Crown & Cushion pub in Blackwater near Camberley
'Located between the A30 and A3, worth making the effort to find if you're in the area. It's not really a 'locals' pub due to its location but for those looking for something different to the normal banal 'clag' in this area, you won't be disappointed. On the plus side, nice garden, a medieval banqueting hall (carvery), no foul mouthed yobs or half-wits give this place something genuinely different.'
Report

Tarring Pubs : The Vine Inn pub in Tarring near Worthing
'Located in Tarring village, ideal for the tourist who is looking for something away from the usual 'pap-on-tap-and-plate' at fair prices. The garden area is fully enclosed with easy access to its own (clean) toilets thus saving the trouble of hauling children into the pub. What I particularly like about this pub's garden is the gas heater over a large table. Food & ale, all good and served by competent staff. ps parking is almost opposite the pub, but... try and remember when you are leaving - it's a One Way street!!'
Report

Newbridge Pubs : The Limeburners pub in Newbridge near Billingshurst
'Possibly one of the finest pubs of its kind in West Sussex, built in the 16th century as a row of cottages, converted into a pub 1800ish. Superb ale, food, service and easy parking. Tourists, there is a caravan park and camping site within yards. Generally speaking, good all round value for money. See there website for fuller information.'
Report

Tarring Pubs : The George & Dragon pub in Tarring near Worthing
'More of a 'locals bar for local people' and to be fair, has been good in its day. From a purely personal point of view, walk the extra 150 meters up to the Vine.'
Report

Worthing Pubs : The Hare and Hounds pub in Worthing
'Possibly the best ordinary 'no nonsense' pub in Worthing if you're over 35. The ales and food are very good, customers are civilised and capable of decent friendly conversation, the pub is clean with traditional decoration and a nice dining area, the staff are competent and prices are competitive by any standards. Tourists, only a short walk (200 meters) from the main shopping area.'
Report

Worthing Pubs : The Warwick pub in Worthing
'My wife and I visited this pub at lunchtime a few weeks ago, not recommended, a pot of tea for two at £3+ is taking the p - - -, soup in cold bowls, and dirty toilets do not equal value for money on any scale. My apologies to the previous contributor, I'm glad your experience was better than ours. Tourists, beware!'
Report

Alfold Pubs : The Crown pub in Alfold near Cranleigh
'As pubs go in these Surrey / Sussex villages, not bad. Of particular note, they do a fair range of ales and very good sandwiches with a nice salad. Tourists, the nearby church has a set of original stocks for your naughty children !!'
Report

West Molesey Pubs : The Surveyor pub in West Molesey
'An estate pub belonging to Fullers, not recommended due to the frequent presence of foul mouthed yobs but to be fair, the landlord has tried to get rid of the 'worst of the worst' amongst them. Overall, a poor example of a public house.'
Report

Hurtmore Pubs : The Squirrel Inn pub in Hurtmore near Godalming
'Located just off the A3 about 4 miles south of Guildford, better than average for this area but that isn't saying much as it's a tad pricey even by Surrey standards. However, it does have a nice large garden and car park.'
Report

Loxwood Pubs : Onslow Arms pub in Loxwood near Billingshurst
'Located beside a bit of (tributory ?) the Wey / Arun canal that is undergoing a major restoration programme. It's not a bad pub for food, ale, parking etc.. but you get much better value for money at the Three Compasses in Alfold.'
Report

Ash Pubs : Standard of England pub in Ash near Aldershot
'Located beside the Basingstoke canal but tends to be more of a locals pub than touristy. It's some time since my last visit but they do serve good simple pub grub at reasonable prices.'
Report

Ash Pubs : The Greyhound pub in Ash near Aldershot
'Interesting place this, Ember Inns have done their best but for some completely unknown reason they have always been very slow when it comes to delivering food and staff who don't appear to have much interest in what they're doing. A friend of mine once said it was due to chlorine getting into the local gene pool!!!'
Report

Yapton Pubs : Shoulder Of Mutton & Cucumbers pub in Yapton near Arundel
'Went passed it yesterday, closed. I'm told on good authority that the 'going-in' price is cheap but the rent is horrendous!'
Report

Houghton Pubs : The Bridge Inn pub in Houghton near Arundel
'Located very close to the Industrial Museum and gets most of the passing trade on a busy road, not best value for money, see other reviews for nearby eateries.'
Report

Walton-On-Thames Pubs : The Weir pub in Walton-On-Thames
'Located beside the Thames about 3 miles west (up-river) of Kingstone Bridge, overpriced, slow service but the setting is fabulous. On the plus side, I've never had a poor pint there and it was only a short bike ride down the riverside path from Molesey. My only real complaint, foul mouthed oafs messing about on the waters edge in summer and screeching kids running riot everywhere. Tourists, not the worst but better further inland (Weybridge) so keep walking or riding for another mile. My apologies to previous reviewer, I judge and write 'as seen''
Report

Esher Pubs : The Bear pub in Esher
'Wow, some experience paying a bill here some time back!! After my eyes stopped watering and my 'flexible-friend' (credit card) had recovered from his inflicted injuries, I realised that everything is about 30% dearer in the Bear.....and this is Surrey!!. Tourists, far better value for money to be had in Claygate 2 miles away.'
Report

Ford Pubs : The White Hart Inn pub in Ford near Chippenham
'Located just off the A420, between Chippenham and Bristol. Additional to what the previous reviewer has said, this pub is ideal for visitors to Castle Coombe and better than most you will encounter in Bath or Chippenham. In the days when I lodged in what is now the old (past) Post Office, what wonderfully memorable evenings I have from 86/87!! Tourists, highly recommended.'
Report

Ford Pubs : The Arundel Arms pub in Ford near Arundel
'I suspect this pub was properly known as the 'Shakydoo' in recent years and closed about a year ago. For info, it's now a private residence on the north side of the railway crossing directly beside the railway gates. It's name reputedly originated from the WW2 Pilates who had to land at Ford Airfield, it was considered to be a "bit of a shaky do!'
Report

Ash Vale Pubs : The Swan pub in Ash Vale near Aldershot
'Located beside the Basingstoke Canal, generally good value but does get very busy during summer months especially if there is enough water in the canal for visiting narrow-boats. Tourists, many interesting things to see in this area, best to research first as nearby Mytchett has a centre covering this canal's history. Wildlife enthusiasts, you've just found enough to keep you occupied for years but......walkers on the heathland areas....plenty of adders sunbathing on the sandy soil!!!'
Report

Chiddingfold Pubs : The Crown Inn pub in Chiddingfold near Godalming
'My sincere apologies to the previous reviewer, sorry to say I can't agree. It's overpriced even by Surrey standards but to be fair, they have got a good chef and the staff appear to be better than average but always seem to be under pressure when things get busy. From a purely personal point of view of the custom base, just a bit on the 'stuffy' side for my liking.'
Report

Cranleigh Pubs : Merlin Inns Ltd. pub in Cranleigh
'Located within Smithbrook Kilns, an old brick-works located on the A281 between Bramley and Alfold. Little or nothing is known about this pub/restaurant as it caters or, has in the past catered for visitors to the kilns. I have visited these kilns, not bad if - like me - you are interested in that kind of thing but.....the rows of little shops are geared to tourists!!!'
Report

Littlehampton Pubs : Arun View Inn pub in Littlehampton
'Located beside Littlehampton harbour / river Arun and overlooking Rope Walk on the west side of the harbour. Possibly the best food pub within the town boundaries and reasonably priced for this area. Tourists, almost opposite the Railway Station, get there early (12:15 ish) if you want a traditional Sunday lunch.'
Report

Climping Pubs : The Black Horse pub in Climping near Littlehampton
'Situated just off the A259, very old and almost quaint. First class for any special occasion and you could be somewhat surprised at the known faces who visit this little gem!! Tourists, easy to miss the turning for this pub but the bonus is.....if you do, the uncommercialised clean beach is a treat - caution, very narrow road and the locals don't hang around on their tractors!!'
Report

Worthing Pubs : The Cricketers pub in Worthing
'Good solid friendly locals pub with a variety of activities. I'm not sure if they've started doing food again but the beers are kept in superb condition at reasonable prices. Tourists, parking anywhere in Broadwater is not easy, catch 1.5 mile bus ride out of Worthing for this one as this village was here long before Worthing and has some interesting history.'
Report

London (WC) Pubs : The Angel pub in London (WC)
'One of my old haunts when I worked nearby until a couple of years ago. Located 3 minutes from Tottenham Court tube station and next door to St Giles church. It's a typical Sam Smiths pub, clean, good value and no-nonsense food - all at very competitive prices. I'm told recently that ordinary bitter has just touched £2 a pint ! The pub itself is a bit of a labyrinth like building with all its bars and doors etc. and a 'courtyard' area but most interesting of all is the custom base!! This wonderful group of people consists of every known version of erudite, eccentric and interesting people that I've ever met - though I must add - most of them are civil servants, artists and a myriad of other fringe elements of society in general! Tourists, best value for money in this immediate area but don't expect anything fancy!'
Report

London (SE) Pubs : Maple Taverns Ltd pub in London (SE)
'Is this pub the Rose and Crown ?'
Report

London (SE) Pubs : Prince William Henry pub in London (SE)
'Not 'my cup of tea' personally but popular with tourists and those heading for Waterloo Station on the east side.'
Report

Corsham Pubs : Hare & Hounds pub in Corsham
'This is possibly the best all round pub on the A4, located 3 miles south west of Chippenham in the hamlet of Pickwick and yes, there is a plaque on the wall of the pub referring to some 'papers' ! Tourists, well worth a visit to the Methuen Estate and House.'
Report

Corsham Pubs : The Two Pigs pub in Corsham
'This pub was originally a pure cider house, bought by two police officers (reputedly) in the 80's and converted into what is now the 'in-place to be seen' if you're anybody!'
Report

Esher Pubs : The Bear pub in Esher
'As indicated in the previous review, standards are high in this pub but on our visit not long ago, brace yourself and make sure you are sitting down when the bill arrives ! Sorry, it's way overpriced but that's Surrey for you. Any of the pubs in Claygate (2 miles) are better value for money overall.'
Report

Frimley Green Pubs : The Rose & Thistle pub in Frimley Green near Camberley
'Very much a younger persons pub but it does retain a 'locals' feel to it. The only thing that has niggled me in the past is......names of drinks that are almost unpronounceable ! Their menu is also quite good and reasonably priced for the area. Tourists, well worth a visit and don't forget, you're only 300 meters or so from the 'spiritual home' of the world darts championship (Potters). Walkers, the nearby Basingstoke canal is a walkers paradise.'
Report

Godalming Pubs : Sun Inn pub in Godalming
'In the 60's and 70' this pub was run by a delightful couple named Harry and Jean Stock and it really was a place worth going to - not so anymore but their are far worse pubs in this town. Tourists best value for money is to be had in the Richmond at the other end of the High Street but parking anywhere in Godalming is an 'art-form' best left to the locals !'
Report

East Molesey Pubs : The Albion pub in East Molesey
'Possibly the best pub at this end of town, Hampton Court Station is only a 3 minute walk, good ales, food is decent pub-grub and atmosphere is friendly. Tourists, anything closer to Hampton Court on the other side of the bridge will have 'noughts' attached to it !!'
Report

Tangmere Pubs : Bader Arms pub in Tangmere near Chichester
'This little gem is to be found just off the A27 very close to the old Tangmere airfield and named after the (late) great 2WW flying ace, a genuine ordinary pub in a sea of bars, bistros, gastropubs etc. and it can cater for most needs without fuss. Food is straightforward, no nonsense pub-grub that's been cooked properly, the ales are kept superbly, good parking, decent garden and sensibly priced. Tourists, only a short walk to the Tangmere Museum of Aviation but it's also worth a look round the Goodwood area if you're in this neck of the woods.'
Report

Godalming Pubs : King Alfred pub in Godalming
'Closed - best decision ever made for this place !'
Report

Godalming Pubs : The Red Lion pub in Godalming
'Closed at present'
Report

Godalming Pubs : Three Lions pub in Godalming
'Affectionately known as "The Scratchers" by those of us that grew up in the area. Best described as a pub that's big on entertainment with a good crowd of locals. Tourists / visitors to the Godalming area, if you manage to park a vehicle anywhere in this area, tell the locals - you've achieved a miracle '
Report

Box Hill Pubs : The Quarrymans Arms pub in Box Hill near Corsham
'Well worth making the effort to find, stunning views over the Box Valley with Colerne church visible on the far side. Superb, beer, food and service at reasonable prices. NB be careful emerging onto or off the A4, many of the locals think they're on the M4 !!'
Report

East Molesey Pubs : The Europa pub in East Molesey
'In my view, one of those pubs I can't quite put my finger on and say for sure what it is and what it isn't but it certainly has a chequered and varied history. In the past it's been run by one of the 'best in the trade' - Dermot. This was followed by (arguably) one of the worst - Chris who seemed to unintentionally attract every idiot in the KT8 postcode area until recently when it was taken over again by what appears to be a real professional. Tourists, has always been decent value for money. The 'Cabin' is my favourite bar but the garden is also nice.'
Report

Charlton Pubs : The Fox Goes Free pub in Charlton near Chichester
'This very old pub is properly known as 'The Fox Goes Free' and is located east of Singleton in the tiny hamlet of Charlton. As a pub, it's one of the best in West Sussex for ale and food at sensible prices and overlooks the north side of Goodwood Racecourse. Tourists, about the best value for money in the immediate area if you are visiting East Dean Gardens/College or anywhere on the Goodwood Estate.'
Report

Guildford Pubs : Raymond Dean & Michael Ayling pub in Guildford
'I think I'm correct in saying that this pub is properly known as 'Platform 9' and formally known as 'The Plough' If I'm correct, very much a young persons pub that still retains a few old regulars and has a late licence. Tourists, approximately 200 meters from the Railway Station.'
Report

Guildford Pubs : The Britannia pub in Guildford
'Located beside the River Wey at the back of the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre with easy access via a footbridge from the A281 and road from the High Street. Tourists, unfortunately, not best value for money but useful for some ale and food if you're on a narrow-boat and having to wait at the lock that's almost opposite.'
Report

Claygate Pubs : The Griffin pub in Claygate near Esher
'I suspect this pub is called The Griffin, a real 'locals-local'. It's unpretentious, nice custom base and serves very good ale at reasonable prices. One thing I do seem to remember is fierce looking dog that was in fact a real old lovable softie!! Tourists, value for money, nice crowd of locals and better than anything I know of in Esher or Oxshot. On the food side of things, visit The Foley Arms.'
Report

Corsham Pubs : The Royal Oak pub in Corsham
'Still a locals pub but tends more towards the younger age group. It's also got - or had until recently - some unusual opening hours at week-ends. Tourists, not bad for a drink if you're visiting the Methuen Estate nearby.'
Report

East Molesey Pubs : The Kings Arms pub in East Molesey
'Now fully refurbished to the highest standards and appears to be aimed at tourism for nearby Hampton Court. They have however kept something of a local feel to the place. Tourists, in this area beware, Dick Turpin was polite enough to wear a mask before relieving you of your worldly goods. Not so along the Thames, businesses and their staff in general can retain a smile through any grimace you may display when reaching for your credit card to purchase a cup of coffee !!'
Report

Llantwit Major Pubs : S C & K L Davidson pub in Llantwit Major
'I suspect this pub is properly known as the Old Swan Inn and its full address is Church Street, Llantwit Major, South Glamorgan, CF61 1SB. My favourite bit of this pub is its entrance - low doorway and what appears to be original and worn flagstones. They also keep beers properly and the locals are great fun but....this pub gets seriously busy in summer. Tourists, worth a visit but it's best to park over in the main car-park opposite the railway and behind the shopping precinct - don't even think about attempting to drive your car around this bit of 'Old Llanwit' unless you can steer a vehicle to within micron measurements !! 'Town centre pub, generally one of the better establishments in Worthing, very popular for Sunday lunch and the ale was well kept when we visited recently. Tourists, it's an ordinary decent pub that gives fair value for money.'
Report

Findon Pubs : The Black Horse pub in Findon near Worthing
'Large Pubco eatery on the A24 north of Worthing, good menu and beer selection but pricey for what it is. We had a light lunch here about a month ago and it was nice but not worth what I paid for it. Tourists, better value to be had elsewhere.'
Report

Worthing Pubs : The Lamb Inn pub in Worthing
'Update time. It's changed hands again and what a 'mixed-bag' we have now !! The food is superb, the beer okay and some of the customers....well...how can I put this....unusual!! My only advice, keep the garden tidy and clear of glasses as they have a good children's play area. Tourists, no real facilities for smokers but worth a visit (at least once anyway).'
Report

Worthing Pubs : The Broadwater pub in Worthing
'Possibly the best sports bar in the area, food and ale are well kept, cooked and served at reasonable prices. They also have a good mix of age groups. Tourists, not my first choice as it can get noisy when big matches are on but it's a decent place.'
Report

Worthing Pubs : The Grand Victorian Hotel pub in Worthing
'Generally it has a very good reputation for accommodation, ale and food though I do understand entertainment has been through some changes. Tourists, located just outside Worthing Railway Station.'

Amberley Pubs : The Sportsman pub in Amberley near Arundel
'Oh dear, another casualty of our times, closed at present. It may well stay that way for some considerable period of time but I hope I'm wrong.'

Pulborough Road Pubs : Welldiggers Arms pub in Pulborough Road near Petworth
'Located on the A283 south east of Petworth. Superb little place but easily missed if you're going like hell in a car. Tourists, better value than most in Petworth.'
Report

Binsted Pubs : The Black Horse pub in Binsted near Arundel
'One of the very finest pub / restaurants in the Arundel area and very competitively priced by comparison. This pub has some of the finest views over a golfcourse and woodland anywhere to be found locally. Couple this with a lovely garden and a conservatory dining area makes this pub something slightly special. Their menu is wide and changed regularly, beers are superb. Tourists, signposted off the A27 west of Arundel.'

Goring-By-Sea Pubs : Highdown Hotel pub in Goring-By-Sea near Worthing
'Not really a pub, more of a restaurant / hotel. Top end of the market but not ridiculously priced. Tourists, fabulous gardens in a chalk pit next door and superb nearby walks onto Highdown Hill. The views are breath taking on a clear day so take your camera.'
Report

Goring-By-Sea Pubs : The Bull Inn pub in Goring-By-Sea near Worthing
'I would love to write a review about this pub but it's been chock-a-block full for their special lunch deals on the two occasions we've stopped there. Their parking facilities are a bit limited for the amount of trade they do.'
Report

Worthing Pubs : The Smugglers Return pub in Worthing
'Located on a busy crossroads on the edge of a small industrial estate with limited parking facilities. It's clean and tidy, serves good ale and does most other things well but...it has got one or two of those idiosyncratic types of customer !!.'

Worthing Pubs : The Jack Horner pub in Worthing
'Reputed to be Worthing's only gay pub. Tourists, I'm not qualified to comment further !!'

Worthing Pubs : The Clifton Arms pub in Worthing
'Inhabited by some very strange customers ! Tourists, not recommended unless you're accompanied by fully trained experts for future counseling sessions !!'
Report

Alfold Pubs : The Alford Barn Inn pub in Alfold near Cranleigh
'Not really a pub, more of a restaurant at the 'top-end of the trade. It's located on the A281 (southbound) in a large converted barn that must be literally hundreds of years old. Tourists, something quite special when you see the interior, genuine and original wood beams.'
Report

Rudgwick Pubs : The Thurlow Arms pub in Rudgwick near Horsham
'This pub closed about 4 years ago.'
Report

Horsham Pubs : The Green Dragon pub in Horsham
'I stopped here at lunchtime recently and had a superb bowl of real home-made mushroom soup. It's a vary old 1780ish Hall and Woodhouse pub that seems to specialise in high quality reasonably priced bar food during the day and all sorts of organised entertainment during the evenings. Tourists, it struck me as good all round value for money when compared to most everything else in the town centre and this pedestrianised precinct. Good tip, use the Park and Ride bus service at £1:50 for the day.'
Report

Chichester Pubs : Black Horse pub in Chichester
'Small in size, big in quality and good parking. This pub is on the A286 south of Chichester and represents good all round value for money with their ales and (home-cooked) food. Tourists, it beats most in Chichester.'
Report

Weybridge Pubs : The Old Crown pub in Weybridge
'A very old three bar pub by the River Thames that serves top class ales and ordinary well cooked pub grub. Tourists, one of the best pubs along the Thames tow / footpath and not stupidly priced. NB it's best to park in nearby car-parks as traffic wardens in this town are about as tolerant as a rabid doberman !!'
Report

Glasson Dock Pubs : Dalton Arms pub in Glasson Dock near Lancaster
'I hope this pub is still in business, about 15 years ago I and a couple of friends had one of the finest sunday lunches to be found anywhere at that time. For those amongst us who happen to be pub food freaks like me, it was a 'flatcap' better described as a larger than normal Yorkshire Pudding that's made to fit the plate. Meat, veg and gravy are then arranged in the pudding. Absolute work of art. Tourists, I'm now out of date for this beautiful part of England, best to seek advice by messaging this sites Administrator (Dale)'

Radstock Pubs : The Tuckers Grave Inn pub in Radstock
'This pub should be classified as a National Treasure, real olde worlde approach (including furniture), dangerous local cider and a local community that make a pub what it should be - plain good fun. The history of this place is interesting too, named after an old Landlord who reputedly hung himself. Tourists, as I remember, very limited public transport in this area but to miss a trip here is depriving you of something ! On my last visit, I was not driving and had a few too many of their ciders, I swear to this day I closed one eye and could still see double !'
Report

Cobham Pubs : The Fairmile Arms pub in Cobham
'Looks can be deceiving, this pub / restaurant and hotel is not all it appears when you see it from the road. It's located on what is the old London road (formally old A3) north of the town and sports a fantastically long frontage with an impressive yellow and black 1800s carriage in front of the building. It's also super safe for children as no child could reach the road before being brought down by Mum or Dad ! However, food is standard 'ping-fling-and-bring at Surrey prices. Tourists, bar snack dishes are however very good and it's worth having your camera to hand. '

Runcton Pubs : The Walnut Tree pub in Runcton near Chichester

Chichester Pubs : The Star and Garter pub in Chichester

Littlehampton Pubs : The General Henry pub in Littlehampton
'Fully up and running now under the new management of Gareth and Lisa. Good sound no nonsense pub-grub menu at highly competitive prices and excellent ales. Entertainment is far more than just music - all sorts of high tech interactive games. Tourists, 0.5 mile inland from the main commercialised areas of Littlehampton and a lot cheaper. Smokers, shielded from the wind on a patio with canopies.'

Rudgwick Pubs : The Mucky Duck Inn pub in Rudgwick near Billingshurst
'The correct address of this pub is The Mucky Duck Inn, Tismans Common Nr Bucks Green, West Sussez RH12 3BW Tel 01403 822300 or www mucky-duck-inn.co.uk A seriously good real ale pub with good food and luxury ensuite accommodation. It's a bit of a time warp in many ways, huge open log fire, wood beams and a cat named Eric sound asleep in front of it. Tourists, about 1.5 miles off the A281. NB best to contact them first if it's accommodation you're after as this is the Surrey / Sussex border area and prices can be similar to noughts on the end of your telephone number !!'
