'Beer ok if you're at the point where your taste-buds have gone. Sound system is very bad - most likely acoustics haven't been considered. Cleanliness ok in the day but takes a downturn at night. Toilets pretty bad, and do the owners think it'll attract customers letting some foreign guy hassle you for money for a squirt of Carex everytime you just want to point Percy at the porcelain in peace?'

'Agreed, nice pub for everyone. Good customer service. Clean. Different levels to sit, large non-smoking area (even larger after 1st July 2007). Meals are very good. The Mrs and myself like the wine they do there, also the beer is good. Perhaps not the cheapest but there's usually an offer on something. Overall rating 9/10.'

'Would be ok with a numbered ticketing system akin to a supermarket meat-counter. Maybe the Post Office queueing system with an electronic voice "Bar-person No.4 Please". Imagine the atmosphere of a place like that. At least it would stop in some ways the loud-mouthed chavs pushing in their over-waxed heads. Or perhaps just a higher quantity of staff who are reasonably observant of who was there before who. In its favour, it's lively at night, there are offers on most of the time and I think a regular open-mike musician's night (not always good for the customers). 5/10 overall- simple but effective improvements needed at the bar when busy.'

'Has been cleaned up recently, a good start to an evening (or start to a day for some locals). Bar service has been better lately IMO. The toilets are clean, but the ones in ASDA on Newark Road are nearer.'

'Quite a nice little pub, a bit like walking into someone's house. Decent range of drinks. Don't think they do food. Seems strangely lacking in female customers. It's a male 'locals' dominated pub where characters from 'Deliverance' come to mind. Toilets could do with refurbishment. Has a pool table area, but felt we weren't welcome to play on it as it seems to be reserved for locals on first-name terms with the landlord. 5/10'

'I'd like to second the below comment. Could do with improvement in the mentioned areas considering its very attractive location. The immediate locals, many of them similar to characters from the Howard's Way style yuppie world (the extravagant 80's has been re-born here) probably look at it as a 2.4 kids family pub and don't go there. Food's ok but not spectacular, fine if you're up for a chips, salad and meat/fish/chicken lunch, Findus-style curry or gravy meal. Not too fussy with food myself, so it was fine in my book. It's clean overall. Nice to sit outside with a beer if the sun's out and people can keep their kids under control. 6/10'

'Service has really gone downhill in recent years. Was in a recent lunchtime regrettably, and noticed how poor the sound quality was on the 'play what the bar-staff want and sod the customers' speaker system. Very trebly harsh sound from what looked like decent speakers. The staff didn't look busy behind the bar, so I asked the manager (I believe) to turn down the treble and up the bass to warm the sound up a bit. His response was "I'll have to go all the way upstairs to change that, and the (empty) bar area is a priority at these peak times...". I was stunned, unlike now where I can vent my frustration freely on a website for all to see. Needs a staff overhaul big-time.'
