This user has reviewed the following pubs:

Earby Pubs : The Punch Bowl pub in Earby near Barnoldswick
'The Punch Bowl from the outside appears to be a very classical pub, fitting in well with its rural surroundings. On closer inspection there's almost a "Brewersfayre" look to the place. The insides are a relatively standard looking modern interior (painted, walls, new bar, Cigs' Machine, Fruit Machines)with classical overtones (baskets on each table for condiments). I won't bother to mention its smoke free... everywhere is now :o) There's a wide range of beers and real ales available in correctly branded glasses; and a large menu ranging from traditional pub fare to more interesting options such as salmon and duck. All this is a testament to their new chef who prepares meals speedily without compromising on the quality and presentation. The pub itself seems to draw a range of ages, but on our viewing was mostly late twenties to 50+. On the outside there is ample parking and a play area / beer garden.'

Radcliffe Pubs : The Sparking Clogg pub in Radcliffe near Manchester
'Clean modern (90's) pub with a large car-park (though associating drinking with drivings hardly clever) a big kids play area out back and a curry day every week. Foods quite good, nothing special but acceptable and relatively cheap. The pub is situated in a semi-rural stretch of suburbia underneath sets of crackling pylons, next to a busy main road. I would agree with previous comments that the pub can be like eating in a crèche as the locals in Radcliffe seem to have difficulty being bothered about where and what their kids are up to. And getting a drink when the match is on is pretty much impossible, though you must then ask yourself why you go on a match night... all pubs are a nightmare in Manchester during a match.'

Radcliffe Pubs : The Swan pub in Radcliffe near Manchester
'Fancy spending a night in a cell? The Swans usually a good place to start. They should have signs up "Get to watch half of the GMet drag someone into the back of a police van or get a free beer." The pub was renovated (Literally boarded up for 3 months and gutted) when the new Brewery took over. The pub doesn't sell real ale (other then its own rank option) and doesn't cater to main brand lagers. Although in appearance the pub has improved dramatically, the new clean look only kept the dregs away for a matter of a few weeks. Soon after which the local alcoholics, dole dossers and teenage livery soon moved in.'

Radcliffe Pubs : The Morning Star pub in Radcliffe near Manchester
'For a pub situated so close to Radcliffe's Civic suite you would expect some sort of quality, or at least an attempt to make the place look presentable to draw in business from the countless civil ceremonies and weddings that take place in the Civic Suite. Unfortunately like many pubs in Radcliffe this is just another pub reminiscent of those filled with Navies and "Labourers" of the past; now most of the industry and 'real work' has left Radcliffe devoid of jobs these pubs are mostly home to the unemployed and teen (chav) drinkers. The Morning Star seems to have a harder stance then most on "chav" drinkers and has managed to clean up its act a bit in the last few years, though I would still advise that this remain a venture for those who wish to experience a lower-middle class, middle aged, traditional Manchester pub experience. Not a terrible pub but a long way to go to being good.'

Radcliffe Pubs : The British Queen Hotel pub in Radcliffe near Manchester
'The Queen is basically "awaiting demolition" it's just no ones bothered to tell it yet. What looks like an oversized council house and is less then 200 meters from the Swan, this outdated, worn pub is a regular drinking hole for many of the locals and is easily classed as "traditional" without slipping into calling it dilapidated. Radcliffe is one of the few small towns where you can walk two hundred meters in any direction and find a pub. In the case of The Queen I'd say walk the 1/4 mile up the road to the New Bay and experience a real publican who appears to actually have a passion for rejuvenating and modernising their pub. Alternatively if your more into Darts, dominoes etc The Queen isn't going to land you with a knife in the side (no promises)'
