Maulden Pubs : The White Hart pub in Maulden near Bedford
'Pleasant staff and really good food - when you finally get it! We booked 14 for a set Sunday lunch a week in advance, and although the restaurant was empty when we arrived it took 20 minutes before our drinks order was taken, another 15 before our food order and an hour overall before our starters came, although everybody else who came in whilst we were waiting seemed to be served immediately. Also, on our arrival, they seemed unsure as to whether the Sunday lunch menu we had booked for was available or not. When we did get our food some items were wrong and much of it was cold, but when this had all been put right the food itself was excellent. I cannot comment on the desserts, as with four children in our party unhappy with a 2 hours + mealtime, we had to leave before we anticipated. Having said all this, and to be fair to the pub, by way of recompense the manager did not charge us for starters and also gave us a free bottle of rather nice wine but all in all the service was far from what we had been given to expect from others who had been there. Perhaps they were having problems behind the scenes and we were just unlucky, but if you do give it a try expect a lovely meal but allow plenty of time!'
