Derby Pubs : Babington Arms pub in Derby
'A former shop, as with most Wetherspoons pubs, this place has been refitted fairly well to give the customer that 'pub' ambience i.e. loads of wood panelling and velour upholstery. The staff are hard working and efficient and do their best to serve customers in the order that they have been waiting. Again, as with most Wetherspoons, this place attracts a fair amount of scutters and pond life because of the cheap drinks. The manager runs a tight ship though and will not tolerate bad behaviour. I have personally witnessed him barring a troublesome customer. The food is well cooked and the curry deal on a thursday night is definitely worth a try. The toilets are kept immaculately clean but unfortunately they are upstairs from the bar area. Very good range of beers available. Plenty for the real ale fan. My personal favourites are Czech bottled lagers. In stock in the fridge are Herold and Kozel at a reasonable price of £1.99 for a pint bottle. This stuff sells at about £1.59 in the shops so it isn't a bad deal at all. '

Derby Pubs : The Buck In The Park pub in Derby
'An utterly characterless pub. Frequented by gangs of kids at the weekends getting smashed on alcopops. The system on this site doesn't allow me to give in a zero out of ten so I gave it a one.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The City Inn pub in Derby
'THE pond life pub in Derby. Standard attire includes dirty Tommy Hilfiger jumper covered in dog hairs. Swallow tattoos on necks and wrists. 'Love' and 'hate' tattoos on knuckles. Pool table at the back usually frequented by pregnant 14 year old girls. The toilets have their very own ecosystem. Nice man in toilets will also offer to sell you his very own range of pharmeceuticals. If you add up all the City Inn regulars together you may just have enough for a full set of teeth. If you really want to take a walk on the wild side I'd recommend taking a riot gun and body armour in there with you.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Florence Nightingale pub in Derby
'Great boozer. Can get a bit wild on a sunday when everyone is hammered after all day drinking. Landlord a thoroughly decent fellow who talks to his customers. Regular disco, good pool table down the bottom end. Often frequented by lovely women from the DRI next door. Overall friendly ambience and a good drinking experience.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Durham Ox pub in Derby
'Stale beer, grubby surroundings. Take a walk 2 minutes away to the Bell and Castle instead.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Great Northern pub in Derby
'Nice gaffe but God it's expensive. Five quid for a baked tater!'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Old Bell Hotel pub in Derby
'Used to be a great boozer but now frequented mainly by students competing to be 'so incredibly wacky and zany'. I wouldn't bother.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Tiger pub in Derby
'Another Derby boozer that is a pale shadow of its former self. Used to be a great place until the landlord retired to Thailand. During the day this place is frequented by alcohics. Fridays and saturdays disco night. Probably the worst disco you have ever heard. Worth going purely as an anthropological study to observe severely overweight Chad and Alvaston females strutting their stuff and snogging lads half their age. The toilets are minging. The fumes from the urinal will take the gold plate off your jewellry.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Ye Olde Dolphin Inn pub in Derby
'Not a bad place at all. They got rid of the aggressive barmaid that used to have a go at customers. The beer on offer is usual corporate offerings. Nothing special. Food not bad in a 'pub grub' sort of way. On the route of the shameless 'Ghost Tour' where a charlatan fleeces innocent people out of hard earned dosh telling them garbage basically. Hats off to Richard Felix the founder. Some people rob banks mate but you've got Ghost Tours instead. Fair play to you mate!'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Flowerpot pub in Derby
'Fantastic range of beers. Regulars pretty much an unfriendly bunch. Usually old blokes with long, grey hair. They serve Budweiser (the real Czech stuff) on tap. God help you if you order a pint of that. I witnessed a fellow recently being openly ridiculed by the regulars for doing so. Regular gig venue. I went to the Groundhogs gig the other week. Nine quid a ticket. So overpriced for such a small venue and lousy sound. I'll stick to the Victoria at three quid a gig.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Peacock Inn pub in Derby
'Time to get a new landlord for this place. Ridicules customers for buying non-alcoholic drinks. Any landlord who doesn't appreciate that some people drive safely without alcohol needs to remove his head from that tight, warm, damp, smelly place.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Standing Order pub in Derby
'Bar far too small for such a large capacity pub. You try getting served on a weekend. Take a good book with you. Inexperienced staff who don't realise that some people have been waiting to get served longer than others. This is the old Natwest Bank. Beautiful ceiling, albeit nicotine stained. Very little atmosphere or ambience. It's like drinking in an aircraft hangar.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Oneills Irish Bar pub in Derby
'This is the old Saracens Head plus it's not O'Neills anymore. Called something like D'Gios or something. Lager almost three quid a pint. Surly staff. You must be mad.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Noahs Ark Inn pub in Derby
'Scutters pub.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Mr Grundys Pub Tavern pub in Derby
'Very nice indeed. Tends to get a bit crowded on weekends with stag and hen nighters doing the Golden Mile. Some students in there but generally ok. Food great.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Blessington Carriage pub in Derby
'Student pub. Be warned. Legions of kids desperate to be 'so incredibly wacky and zany'.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Furnace Inn pub in Derby
'Great pub. No pretensions. No students. Just thoroughly decent folk frequenting this place. Landlord is a diamond who appreciates his customers. Range of beer nothing special but well kept. Pub and toilets immaculately clean. Nice regulars. Friendly place.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Kingsway Hotel pub in Derby
'Very local boozer. The locals all know each other. Be prepared to be stared at and gossiped about if you dare to venture into this place. Watch out for middle aged tattooed fella in corner who sits there muttering insults about you. He's in there every night near the window.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Jorrocks pub in Derby
'A great town pub. Very few students. Friendly bar staff. Beer on offer limited but well kept. A good stop off for a quick pint while you're out shopping or include Jorrocks in your pub crawl round town. Definitely recommend it.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Jonty Farmer pub in Derby
'Nice enough out of town pub. Type of place to take Grandma for her birthday. Well behaved customers. No swearing or fighting. Nothing special but alright. Friendly and efficient bar staff.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Mitre Hotel pub in Derby
'At first glance this place appears rough. Ok there are a few choice characters in the place. Overall it's a good boozer though. Beer is well kept. Landlady runs a tight ship and deals with any issues immediately. '
Report

Derby Pubs : Ryans Bar pub in Derby
'Pretty soulless place. Not so much regulars as customers in transition from one town pub to another. This was the Green Man formerly. Little atmosphere except on thursday night when there's an 'open mike night'. Expect to see some second rate bands. Mind you it's a free gig. Drinks pricey.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Ranbys Public House pub in Derby
'Usually empty. This is a cafe basically that serves drinks also. if you like a quiet place this is it. Bar staff seem to be students earning a few quid with little idea how to run a bar. They stand chatting between themselves and every now and again might lower their egos to serve a customer. Move on to another pub.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Station Inn pub in Derby
'This is a cops pub. There's NEVER any trouble in here. Landlord doesn't suffer fools and also coordinates the Derby Pubwatch scheme. He's only a little Irish fella but as hard as nails. Serves a very well kept pint.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Swan & Salmon Inn pub in Derby
'Very friendly locals pub. Also gets a lot of traffic at weekends being on the Golden Mile. Great bar staff. Beer nothing special but well kept.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Brick & Tile pub in Derby
'Another pub on the Golden Mile. A good boozer with no pretensions. An old West End pub. Some students unfortunately frequent it but the majority of the real 'Barclays Bankers' are across the road in The Thirsty Scholar (what was The Wheel/ The Garrick). Find it just off Ashbourne Road. See Goodalls the Butchers near traffic lights. Turn off past the launderette and Brick and Tile is hidden away on the left just before the Jacksons store.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Alexandra Hotel pub in Derby
'Great selection of beers. probably the best in Derby. Watch out for bearded men with duffel bags talking about steam trains.....'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Bridge Inn pub in Derby
'Good value steaks. Beer not bad. Nothing special overall. Nice bar staff.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Broadway pub in Derby
'Interesting to see how 'places to be seen' venues are now pale shadows of their former glory. In the 1980's this place was THE pub for a young man to drink in to see the best looking girls in Derby. The car park was full of Capri's and XR3i's. The lads all sported streaked mullet hairdo's and wore designer labels. Now it's a quiet out of town pub. Nothing I can say about it really.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Golden Eagle pub in Derby
'Very much a student pub. I'm all in favour of students having their own pubs. '
Report

Derby Pubs : Seven Stars pub in Derby
'Loads of character this place. I hope its a listed building because it would be a criminal act to destroy this pub like the planners have done others. Feel the history in this place.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Castle & Falcon pub in Derby
'Totally endorse 'Regular Drinker' and his comments. The scutters have moved and are in the City Inn or the Noah's Ark. The place no longer smells of unwashed bodies....not a dog hair covered Tommy Hilfiger jumper in sight! Well done to the owner of the place that rescued it.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Crompton Tavern pub in Derby
'The locals call this place 'Crompton Village'. Walk up Green Lane past the Mecca bingo hall, turn right into Crompton Street. About 200 yards up street pub is on the right. Mostly regulars in here who spend their time gossiping and bitching about each other. Just had it's first new coat of interior paint for at least twenty years. Mainly attracts the 'alternative' crowd. If you're a dreadlocked post-punk socially aware community poet this is probably the right place for you. Landlord is so laid back he's horizontal. Genuine Spanish Cruzcampo lager on draught and Estrelle Damm lager in bottles in the fridge. Reasonable range of bitters/ real ales.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Old Silk Mill pub in Derby
'Nice to see this fine old boozer rescued from what it once was. Years ago this was a bikers pub with some serious pharmeceutical retailing going on by the pool table. Most of the bikers have either OD'd or realised that not many people are impressed with the unwashed denim/leather look. Perhaps they've grown up and become normal. Nice pub these days.'
Report

Derby Pubs : Greyhound Inn pub in Derby
'Lovely old pub. Nice to see it's reopened after a spell boarded up. part of the infamous 'Golden Mile'.'
Report

Derby Pubs : New Zealand Arms pub in Derby
'Nice local boozer. Friendly and unpretentious regulars. You can divert slightly off the Golden Mile and include this on the run of 18 pubs. Begin Mile at Travellers Rest (near Markeaton Park on Ashbourne Road), work your way into town: Waggon and Horses, Swan and Salmon, Gallant Hussar etc. After doing the Gallant cross the road and turn right into Surry Street. Follow to the end and turn right into Peel Street. New Zealand is along here. About five minutes walk from the Gallant. Then continue Mile along Ashbourne Road: Grundys Tavern, Brick and Tile. Avoid the Thirsty Scholar during term time as it's a student pub.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Blue Dog pub in Derby
'What was The Shakespeare. The no. 1 Derby County Football hooligans pub in town. I remember seeing fights in this place like a scene from a John Wayne film. Just another town pub these days. Seems quite nice. Only drawback is that the interior is long and thin. A bit like drinking inside a U-Boat.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Smithfield pub in Derby
'Last time I went there they had Kelham Island Pale Rider IPA on draught. I was impressed!'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Great Northern pub in Derby
'Apologies to the landlord. My previous comment was meant for the Great Northern on Station Road, Mickleover. Right comment.....wrong pub. Apologies sir.....I am but a piece of sputum filled rectum beneath your feet....'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Crown & Cushion pub in Derby
'A good sunday afternoon/ sunday evening pub. Usually karaoke on. Quite a bit of DRI traffic. I've witnessed a few punch ups in here but nothing too spectacular. Across the road from the Florence Nightingale. Eastern European barstaff sometimes struggle with local dialect and colloquialisms i.e. "pint o' black velvet, lager top an' a mickey maaahse please duck".'
Report

Darley Abbey Pubs : The Abbey pub in Darley Abbey near Derby
'I drank here recently. Not a pleasurable experience. You can have any beer as long as it's Samuel Smiths which I find rather unpalatable. The young woman serving me was belligerent and really, really didn't want to be there it was plain to see. Nice building though. It's all that is left of the Augustinian Abbey built by a Norman Earl, William de Ferrers in the 12th century.'
Report

Mickleover Pubs : The Great Northern pub in Mickleover near Derby
'Way too expensive. Pretentiously done out. Imagine Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen on an acid trip decorating a pub. Five quid for a baked tater! When you read the Sunday lunch menu get someone to catch you when you faint. Honestly the food at the Exeter Arms in town is better than in this place and it's half the price.'
Report

Mickleover Pubs : The Vine Inn pub in Mickleover near Derby
'Lovely little boozer. A tad small...a bit like sitting in someones front room. Lovely staff and well kept beer.'
Report

Mickleover Pubs : The Robin Hotel pub in Mickleover near Derby
'Suburban boozer. Very local. Used to be a bit rough in the 1980's. I've heard it's ok these days though. Been extended and done up nicely too.'
Report

Melbourne Pubs : The Alma Inn pub in Melbourne near Derby
'I haven't been in here for decades but remember the landlord, George Aldridge...the champion boxer, very well. He has to be the best landlord ever....and God help anyone who started a ruck in his pub.'
Report

Chellaston Pubs : Bonnie Prince pub in Chellaston near Derby
'Family pub. Nice place to take little uns if you want a drive out on a saturday/ sunday afternoon. There's a well equipped play area inside. The food is very much 'pub grub' but kids menu seems popular with the little people. If you don't like lots of kids around this probably isn't the place for you'
Report

Little Eaton Pubs : The New Inn pub in Little Eaton near Derby
'Worth a visit as an anthropological expedition to observe knuckle draggers. Be prepared to be stared at. Ever seen 'The League of Gentlemen' on telly? The previous comments made by 'Victim' pretty much sum the place up.'
Report

Littleover Pubs : Half Moon Inn pub in Littleover near Derby
'Great boozer. Good place to watch the footie on Sky. Nice barstaff. Well kept ale. Nice looking women. What more can a man ask for?!'
Report

Derby Pubs : Travellers Rest pub in Derby
'Glad to see there's a sign up saying the landlord and landlady are retiring and the lease is on offer. Don't know about the landlord but the landlady put me off drinking there big time. If she doesn't know your face she will stare at you and keep an eye on you. Probably an ex-Gestapo employee who diversified into the pub trade. '
Report

Derby Pubs : Yates Wine Lodge pub in Derby
'Dire. Thursday night the place is full of 'drinkers of the furry bowl'.'
Report

Derby Pubs : The Tiger pub in Derby
'Can't believe Richard felix's Ghost Tours still include this place on their walks round Derby. Why people pay to listen to this cooked up garbage is beyond me.'

Nottingham Pubs : Admiral Rodney pub in Nottingham
'Nice pub, shame about the customers. Got more than its fair share of Waynes, Gary's and Barry's from municipal housing estates. Then there's the snobby old-timers from Wollaton wearing the obligatory Marks and Spencer sweaters, checked shirts and sensible slacks....Christ I could pick 'em off a shelf....'
Report

Nottingham Pubs : The Bath Inn pub in Nottingham
'Been shut for years hasn't it?'

Nottingham Pubs : The Pelican pub in Nottingham
'Fell off my chair laughing at the first review for this place. If you fancy a walk on the wild side by all means go here for a drink but take a riot gun and body armour in there with you. If you really want to fit in wear some 12 hole Doc Martin boots and shave your head. Tends to get very busy on benefits day. I'd like to offer the author of the first reveiew a job selling second hand cars.'

Nottingham Pubs : Three Wheatsheaves pub in Nottingham
