Kennford Pubs : The Ley Arms pub in Kennford near Exeter
'My husband and I used to visit this pub quite often up until about 5 years ago, so decided one Saturday a few weeks ago to visit with our children for lunch. We were surprised how empty the pub was for a busy lunch time, but stood at the bar waiting to be served as the bartender was taking someone elses order. I was the only person waiting to be served, so it was obvious I was next in line. Then another customer appeared, and when the bartender had finished dealing with the person in front of me he went straight to the man who had just entered. I waited for him to be dealt with, and just as he was sorted out an old man walked straight in front of me and pushed in. My husband (who had been in the gents toilets to start with) and I politely explained to the male bartender that we would be leaving and wouldn't be stopping as 2 people had pushed infront of me and he hadn't even acknowledged me stood at the bar. By this time a female member of staff had joined him (she had previously just been wandering around), and they both just looked surprised at me and said "sorry". My point is, the pub was empty and the staff couldn't even manage this small amount of clientel. How on earth would they cope with a packed pub? Most bar staff look up from time to time to make a mental note of who's waiting, they say hello etc, but the service was terrible. I felt toatlly embarrassed stood there for so long waiting to be acknowledged. We won't be going back again....'

Tedburn St Mary Pubs : Kings Arm Inn pub in Tedburn St Mary near Exeter
'We have just returned from having a carvery at this pub. The staff were friendly and made an effort to speak even though they were busy. The food was wonderful and the choice of vegetable very good. There was plain veg aswell as slightly more fancier veg - like their gorgeous swede with a couple of added ingredients that gave it a lovely flavour. The chef seems very passionate about his cooking! The carvery price was reasonable (£7.25) and we will definitely go back!'
