Derby Pubs : Babington Arms pub in Derby 'On the whole it's one of the better Wetherspoons. It's busy, but retains more of a local feel than their usual town centre pubs. It must be great for CAMRA types, loads of guest ales, regularly updated, and a big info board about what's on offer.
If you don't have a beard or wear your keys on your belt be prepared for a slightly cooler reception from the landlord/manager. He'll refer to the pint of lager you've ordered as "a pint of chemicals", and the lack of smile when he cracks this little joke lets you know he'd be happier if he could sling out the Carling pump and replace it with Old Scruttock's Dirigible Mild Ale.
There are more fruit machines than on Blackpool Pleasure Beach but don't be tempted, they are regularly emptied by hovering slot-monkeys ready to pounce on any sign of a payout.
If you're planning a trip to the toilets allow yourself an extra five minutes for the round trip. A trail of breadcrumbs may be useful for finding your way back.
All in all this is a good pub for meeting up, but perhaps not one to spend your whole evening out. It's clean, busy, very cheap drink prices, and welcoming enough for a quick drink while you're waiting for the rest of your friends to turn up.' Report
