Anyway I'm pleased to report the salt and pepper sauce as have now been replaced by much more hygienic salt and pepper mills.
The food we had was very good..can't say what we had because I want to retain my anonymity but you won't be dissatisfied.
Service friendly and good and they've done a great job with the garden at the back affording lovely views across the downs.
Menu good an unpretentious. Every "Gastro pub" should have Ham Egg and Hand cut chips on the menu!
The dining room has a slight stiff feel to it but all in all highly recommended.'

'A very nice place tucked away with a friendly welcome. Excellent local caught pollock fish and chips with a lovely pint of ginger beer shandy. Definitely worth a visit. They too have fallen for the rather unhygienic system of salt and pepper in little saucers that people have to dip their fingers in. Unless the saucer itself gets washed between diners as well as salt and pepper changed I prefer not to dwell to long on the concept. Service excellent.'

'Whenever a negative review is left for this pub the pattern is the same: A rebuttal from the owner who calls into question the integrity of the reviewer just because he has left a negative review and joined the site the same day as he or she visited the restaurant. In fact this an entirely rational thing to do if one has had a negative experience especially as the pub uses positive reviews from this site to promote itself - indeed this is how I was introduced to this site.
Next comes another rebuttal from somebody called Oncewas12 who has a strikingly similar literary style to the owner and clearly loves this place so much he takes it very personally when he reads anybody else might have had a less than perfect time.
I just wonder why anybody would go to such lengths to get so excited about one negative review...not everybody can have a good time. It's just horses for courses.
The story about the waitress and the hot plates is hilarious. Either it's made up but if it's true what else would she say?
The website's integrity is questionable if it allows the pub owners to manipulate it for their own personal gain and if you're doing such an amazingly good job and doing so amazingly well why would you bother to do anything other than say "sorry you had a bad time most people don't".
I've had one good experience there and one bad...my bad experience resulted in my personal integrity being called into question by owner and Oncewas12 and has since disappeared from this site. The positive one remained. Funny that.
The thing is people will only trust a site if they can see it is balanced and independent and if it isn't it ceases to become a valuable resource like Tripadvisor and becomes useless and redundant.
Take it on the chin Giles if it's that good you've nothing to worry about. Michael Winner...now he might be a problem.

'Actually having salt and pepper in open saucers and not changed every service was a health hazard and I am pleased to see Mr Thompson saw fit to rectify things. If he hadn't I think the Council would have. Luke warm food isn't great...do they serve luke warm food at the Ritz? I think people are entitled to complain about their food if it's not up to scratch and the fact that Mr Thompson once worked at the Ritz and wherever else in the past does not mean his kitchen is infallible.
This is a review site...people post their reviews and share their experiences. It's not a place where people are not meant to criticize and only congratulate.
As for his marvellous track reord working with local suppliers...are you taking his word for it or asking around?'

Bosham Pubs : The Anchor Bleu pub in Bosham near Chichester
'..chalked on the blackboard was "Fresh local cockles". Now I happen know that Emsworth cockles are the finest in the land so I was mortified when they just gave me a strange look when I tried to order some. Fresh out of cockles then.
It's what I call a "locals" pub really...a cliquey feel to it and the odd strange look thrown your way because you are "not from round these parts".
If you want a nice pub on the water's edge you can do better.'
