Halesowen Pubs : The Whitley pub in Halesowen
'We went to the Whitley on Bank Holiday Monday lunchtime, 5th May expecting it to be buzzing. There were two men sitting in the bar and no other customers present. There was no atmosphere at all. Every pane of glass in the internal doors of the pub appeared to be missing. It seemed that most of it, including the remains of several glass vases had been thrown and therefore broken, for reasons unknown, in the pub's car park. It was obvious that no attempt had been made by any member of staff to deal with this potentially extremely dangerous siuation (six-inch long shards of glass) despite the time of day (1330 hrs). A skip full of rubbish in the corner of the car park coupled with broken discarded patio furniture nearby should have alerted us to the sort of pub this now is. However, having ventured inside, we soon made a hasty retreat without ordering and vowed never to return.'
