Worsbrough Pubs : The Boatmans Rest pub in Worsbrough near Barnsley
'I don't normally take time to write reviews, there are professional critic that get paid for the job, however there I times I feel we should all complain \ praise more! especially when something or someone stands out from the crowd. The BOATMANS REST is one of these. We moved to barnsley some three years ago, and we are at an age when we like to go out for our sunday lunch. We tried several local (and not so local) inns with various levels of satisfaction from VERY POOR (The Ship, Worsbrough) to VERY GOOD (The old Crown, Darton). We heard several comments about the BOATMANS REST, and we delighted with the main meal, the food was fresh, nicely cooked, well presented and the service was excellent. (the sweets were not so good! but we let that pass) The word went out to all our friend, and we invited relatives to dine with us, knowing they would be impressed. SADLY! that is not the case now, over that last 8 to 10 month there has been a steady decline in the quality of the food, albeit i THINK some of the vegetables are still fresh, but they unpalatable and the meat that was once nicely roasted is now pre-steamed \ boiled and hence looses the taste one expects from a traditional sunday ROAST!. Publicans like constructive criticism? I think not! When I complained (twice) that the food was not up-to par!, the publican never showed their face to find out what the problem was, to offer an apology, or refund. The argument will be I think that others have not complained, but this is due to the general low expectations of the british and their reluctance to spoil a day out with friends \ family.'
