Lancaster Pubs : Fibber Mcgees pub in Lancaster
'I was a bit hesitant to leave a review after the last person who commented said the customers were scrubbers, but here goes! I often go to Fibber McGees because it is one of the most friendly bars in Lancaster. Having lived in Lancaster for the past 7 years Ive been to most of the pubs and bars around. Fibber's is a little gem. Yes the toilets are in need of some tlc, and its tatty in places, but the atmosphere and decent music (day - 60's type stuff, and night - a DJ) really makes up for it. Ive had food here a few times and its always been good, but usually I pop in here during the day for a glass of wine whilst my wife's out shopping. Back in the day this was not a particularly great place because yes...some of the customers were not great. However now id say its a real community pub and I get the impression they've worked quite hard to get rid of the undesirables and give it a bit of a face lift. I don't think unnecessarily offensive comments do anyone any good, and I think the last comment says more about the person writing it than this pub. Its a real mixture of people who seem to go in here, from early 20's to 80+ years. The selection of drinks are much of a muchness, but I do know that their Guinness, some wines, and whichever ales they have on (I think they change them round quite often) are usually particularly good. I get fed up of pubs in Lancaster who aren't your massive chains like wetherspoons etc getting panned. With places like Fibber's you get a nice pint, good food and a friendly people to chat to. To me thats what a good pub is about.'

Lancaster Pubs : 1725 pub in Lancaster
'Im really not sure about this place. Been in a few times, sometimes for food and sometimes for a drink whilst out with friends. The staff can be very standoffish, you almost feel unworthy to go to the bar and order a drink. Definately not approachable. The main problems as I see it with this place are: the seating - the tables are far far to large for the comfortable sofas on either side. This means that when you sit down your legs are chopped off at the knee. A plus side is that its really funny watching people try to readjust their position so as not to injure themselves on the tables. The food is VERY average and not worth what you pay for it. The range of lagers/beers is quite good however you expect that when you're paying a fair bit. Weirdly they haven't bothered doing anything to the toilets in the refurb since changing it from 'The Blue Anchor' which is a real shame as the toilets are horrible, and often really dirty. A member of staff was also telling me how they 'cleverly' put models of a pussy(cat) on the door of the female toilets and a cock(rel) on the door of the male toilets which they found really amusing, but we found much less so. All in all its ok. I would go for a drink there again if I was with a group of friends who wanted to but its fairly impersonal, the foods not that great and Im not really a fan. It is clean and nice looking however. '

Lancaster Pubs : Hustle pub in Lancaster
'Horrible horrible horrible!! BUT...there are NO places where you can get a drink after pubs shut that are half decent so i'd say here and the lounge are the best of a bad lot at the top of town. Do my best to avoid it if at all possible though. Very very dirty and the staff are totally ineffective. On a quiet night (which is most nights now to be fair) you will get served ok, but if theres a few in and the bars quite busy you are unlikely to get served fast. Ive literally waited 25 minutes before. Just as you think the staff realise youre next and are heading towards you they do a sort of u turn and disappear in the opposite direction. Unless youre skinny and blonde in which case you'll probably get served straight away!'

Lancaster Pubs : Gregson pub in Lancaster
'I can see the good things about this place; there are some really interesting acts on there as part of the gregson centre, and the atmosphere (if you feel the laid back, pot smoking hippy, thing) is good for an early-late evening drink. All ethnic and 'chilled'. But Im really sorry but I have to disagree with the last post here...I recently went there for dinner and the food was TERRIBLE!! I dont know if they were having a bad day (Im sure it happens) and I seem to remember back in the day when at university we used to go in because they did good finger food like nachos etc covered in melted cheese (organic im sure). But I have to say the meals (that weren't particularly cheap!!) were virtually inedible in places. I had fish and chips after being told they were the gregsons speciality as they owned the fish and chip shop next door too. I was well up for some really great fish and chips and what I got was a totally dried out overcooked fish and a very tiny portion of some quite hard chips. To be honest the fish was by far the worst part. We were going to see a performance in the arts centre and because the food took such a long time to arrive (probably because they were busy burning the fish) we didnt really have the time (or energy by the time we'd chewed our way through our chippy tea) to complain. I dont have anything against this place and would definately go back for a drink, but I would be reluctant to go back for food. All in all a decent place for a drink and a snack of a cheese covered plate of finger food, but not a place to buy dinner.'
