Bank Pubs : The Oak Inn pub in Bank near Lyndhurst
'Visited the Oak Inn on 18th Aug 09. In general a lovely pub, very attractive, very friendly, good atmosphere and clearly very popular. We had a meal there and i would like to comment on the food. As a vegetarian I often find there is rarely any choice of dishes and that the quality of vegetarian food is poor compared to the meat and fish dishes. There is usually one token dish and it's often disappointing. The Oak Inn was no exception. The only main course for vegetarians was a Greek Salad!! Not really what you'd choose when you go out for a meal in the evening when everyone else is tucking in to hot food. When i pointed out that there was only salad i was told i could have one of the starters as a main course, which i did. I had stuffed red peppers with feta cheese and cherry tomatoes and it was literally that. No sauce, herbs or onion or anything else to make it interesting. I was offered a roll with it or perhaps a salad but i opted for chips and green beans. (I wanted a dinner, not a lunch time snack!) While everyone else was commenting on how tasty their lamb or fish was i felt mine was mediocre and that as usual the vegetarian option was just a token gesture to placate these rather odd people!! Today in Britain there are a huge number of vegetarians and i think we should be better catered for. Anyone had similar problems? '
