London (W) Pubs : Duke of Cornwall pub in London (W) 'The former 'Finnegans Wake' is being refurbished at February 2004, and will shortly reopen under its original name of the 'Duke of Cornwall'.' Report
London (W) Pubs : The Priory pub in London (W) 'The Priory is a fairly pleasant gastropub which also does proper beer.' Report
London (W) Pubs : The Princess Victoria pub in London (W) 'A peculiar little place that really is like someone's front room, only a present-day front room not the Victorian parlour front room of a more traditional pub. Friendly enough and good service.' Report
London (W) Pubs : The Pavilion pub in London (W) 'Formerly the pavilion for a rifle club, this is a large two-bar pub with Fullers beers and several TV screens. There are very few other pubs around here - the nearest possibly the North Pole to the east - so it's fortunate this is a fairly good one.' Report
London (SW) Pubs : Duke Of Cumberland pub in London (SW) 'Cracking place. The Duke of Cumberland is a large opulent Young's pub on the south side of Parsons Green, and has the decor and space appropriate to a Victorian gin palace - not that common in this part of town. Also a very good pub to drink in!' Report
London (W) Pubs : Hand and Flower pub in London (W) 'Now reverted to its original name of the Hand and Flower (right at the start it was the Rose and Crown but that was a couple of hundred years ago), this is a big pub popular with Australians; has decent beer and food, and pub quizzes on a Sunday.' Report
London (W) Pubs : General Smuts pub in London (W) 'A big estate pub in White City, not too bad for what it is - certainly not unfriendly as some of these places are, and by no means 'whites only' as the name might lead you to suspect. It was closed down for some time but has now (April 2004) reopened. No real ale.' Report
London (W) Pubs : Grove Park Hotel pub in London (W) 'The Grove Park Hotel is a large fairly modern pub in relaxed surroundings, does proper beer and subsists on its pub quizzes.' Report
London (SW) Pubs : Harwood Arms pub in London (SW) 'Airy Italianate and cool gastropub. Spitfire £2.50 / pint, also Old Speckled Hen. Relaxed ambience and unbusy decor in the large dining area which is lit by a skylight in what is probably an extension roof. Good use of space with a lot of tables.' Report
London (W) Pubs : Hog In The Pound pub in London (W) 'Small corner pub convenient for Bond Street tube station - some real ales. Not much atmosphere but it probably gets a lot of passing trade.' Report
London (SW) Pubs : Man In The Moon pub in London (SW) 'The Man In The Moon is now (April 2004) closed and reopened as a pasta restaurant.' Report
London (W) Pubs : Portobello Star pub in London (W) 'The Portobello Star is a long, narrow 'locals' pub' unaffected by the trendification of the Portobello Road area. If tired of the glamour of the Gold and other such places you could do worse than sinking a pint or three in the Star.' Report
London (W) Pubs : Tommy Flynns pub in London (W) 'The Prince of Wales is now a cod-Irish theme bar called 'Tommy Flynn's'. So over the top is it in its pseudo-Irish decor that the drinker (who is drinking Guinness, for there is nothing else to be had) suspects it is all a tremendous joke.' Report
London (W) Pubs : The Crabtree Tavern pub in London (W) 'The Crabtree is a large sprawling pub with a garden that lies by the River in that no-mans-land between Hammersmith and Fulham proper. Recently given a gastropub makeover it keeps its traditional back bar while improving the garden no end.' Report
London (W) Pubs : The Raven pub in London (W) 'The Raven is a short walk from Stamford Brook station, a pub with gastro tendencies but not overdone. There is real ale including guest beers. The furniture is eclectic wood and padded, and leather sofas. Big mirrors don't disguise a low ceiling. This place is a former stable block and looks old without being 'ye olde'. The beams for example are painted white not black, to visually raise the ceiling.
The idea of a 'bistro' is that the food is cheap but honest, and doesn't get in the way of the drink. With a huge menu and specific dining areas, there's always a risk that it will, but I don't think that's happened here. The Raven is still a pub.' Report
London (W) Pubs : The Richmond Arms pub in London (W) 'Lots of arches and pillars in this odd space that seems like the skeleton of a more involved public house. Two pool tables in different parts of the pub suggest its original functions. No real ale.' Report
London (W) Pubs : The Shepherd & Flock pub in London (W) 'A cosy little corner pub on the end of a block on Goldhawk Road. Leather seats, café blinds, wooden floor, which sounds like a gastropub but it's a traditional local, with heavy swagged curtains and ornate ceiling mouldings. It recently had a smarten-up and the outside is now dark red. The windows show trees to the outside. Fullers London Pride is the only real ale.
Very much a locals' pub; the clientele is probably mostly Irish but there's no theming apart from a sign advertising Irish sport on TV. ' Report
London (SW) Pubs : The White Swan pub in London (SW) 'The White Swan could do with being subdivided into rooms, as a smell of cooking food prevails throughout. That said it has good real ales and is popular with people from local office buildings.' Report
London (SW) Pubs : The Atlas pub in London (SW) 'Great little pub near Earls Court but nowhere near as touristy as the Prince of Wales, say, nor as dire as the Lillie Langtry. Good beer, good food, good service, and it's been restored to a late-Victorian / early 20th century decor.' Report
London (SW) Pubs : The Golden Lion pub in London (SW) 'A scruffy but goodnatured locals pub, the Golden Lion is one of the oldest hostelries in Fulham. ' Report
Kingston Upon Thames Pubs : The Kelly Arms pub in Kingston Upon Thames 'Now taken over by the same people that have the Canbury Arms, the Kelly Arms has been upgraded from a quiet locals' corner pub into ... well, it may be too early to tell, but I'd say a corner pub with four real ales and a food menu. It is less minimalist and restauranty than the Canbury, and retains quite a bit of the original decor; the original regulars are likely to come back.
It is also, apart from the Spring Grove, the only proper real ale pub in the immediate vicinity, which should give it some pulling power.' Report
Surbiton Pubs : The Rising Sun pub in Surbiton 'This pub has closed down and is now derelict' Report
Kingston Upon Thames Pubs : Canbury Arms pub in Kingston Upon Thames 'Aspirational local refurbished a couple of years ago , they have a range of four or five ales and some proper cider on tap. They also make much of the food and are trying to be a community local though with the Wych Elm and the Willoughby nearby they have picked the toughest area to compete in.' Report
Kingston Upon Thames Pubs : Sir Robert Peel pub in Kingston Upon Thames 'More of a music venue and cabaret club than actually a pub, the Peel attracts a young audience for a range of good rock bands.' Report
Kingston Upon Thames Pubs : The Artful Dodger pub in Kingston Upon Thames 'A small corner pub you might well overlook, at the bottom of Richmond Road near the station. It's a proper pub, though, with real ale and occasionally some unusual ones as the landlord likes to try the unexpected. Formerly the South Western, I suspect it is unfairly ignored by many.' Report
Kingston Upon Thames Pubs : The Albion pub in Kingston Upon Thames 'Small Greene King pub directly on Fairfield Green, it could be very good but there is a limited range of beer - two mainstream GK beers maximum, often only IPA. When you consider how many brews GK have in their portfolio that is not very many at all. Pub is often much used by people who have just finished sporting activity on Fairfield or at the nearby recreation centre.' Report
Leatherhead Pubs : Royal Oak pub in Leatherhead 'Very good pub with a beer festival coming up soon.
The website could do with a straighten out though.' Report
Kingston Upon Thames Pubs : Park Tavern pub in Kingston Upon Thames 'A pub in a sidestreet near Richmond Park, converted from two Victorian terrace houses. No gimmicks like food or football (though there is a TV) - it's a pub. It sells beer. Three regular and three guest ales on tap (recently there have been beers from Orkney and Surrey Hills). The only food is filled rolls - it isn't a restaurant either. The clientele seems to be a mix of locals and people who've been walking in the nearby park. Out front there is a small patio with an overhanging trellis. The general atmosphere is cosy (and no longer smoky of course). ' Report
Twickenham Pubs : Prince Albert pub in Twickenham 'The Prince Albert is a cosy Fullers pub which has at least three good points in its favour:
1. it has regular music sessions often showcasing new talent
2. excellent Thai food
3. it is now managed by Ken Maguire who used to run Latymers in Hammersmith.
The 281 and 267 bus routes pass the front door.' Report
Bexhill-On-Sea Pubs : Royal Sovereign pub in Bexhill-On-Sea 'Cosy pub almost opposite the Railway station, the beer is Shepherd Neame from their variety of ales. Service was relaxed but friendly. There is no food (or wasn't on a weekday afternoon anyway). The style of the pub is traditional and the clientele a mix of locals, during the afternoon watching the racing on the telly.' Report
