'the pub is an outstanding feature in crosspool, but unfortunatly this is not reflected in the service you recieve at the bar. this was once a fine quality building but has been spoiled by a tacky atemt at redecorating. smokey atmosphere, could do with a good clean, i bacame attached to the carpet whilst watching bar staff throwing lemon slices at each other. despite all of this the place gets full of locals, with some outstanding characters.'

'owned by "the students union" but also catering for the local community, this pub has an excellent policy regarding beer pricing. food not available from the bar, although customers are encouraged to bring their own. plenty of standing room,gets packed later in the evening. '

'the nickname says it all "THE MADHOUSE". this boozer certainly lives up to it's name, brimming with characters there's always something going on. entertainment includes karrioki? pool and simply watching life go by. without a doubt a boozer for the serious boozer, and thirsty alike. '

'whoever redesigned the interior really hit the spot, but unfortunately not all the locals would agree and prefer the down market atmosphere of the tavern just down the road. this place has a lot to offer, there lots of quiet corners, no smoking areas and lots of standing room. perhaps it needs a manager of some character to pull it all together!. stones hand pull always available along with other guest beers.'

'although thoughtly re-vamped to include snooker and pool tables, well away from the main seating areas it is quite obvious that this pub only caters for student trade!. run by students for students. with added sarcasm from the brothers grim. ther's always a great choice of ale at a price, but i can't be bothered! and i only live round the corner. apparently food is good and reasonably priced.'

'Further to my previous comments Stones cask hardley ever available here. And guess what! it's always available down the road in the Crosspool Tavern (just re-furbished), and 15p cheaper.Incidently this pub? is still in need of a characterful manager to head the operation!'
