Whittington Pubs : The Jack Mytton Inn pub in Whittington near Oswestry
'I visited the Jack Mytton Inn during a canal holiday over Easter 2004. We found our reception to be decidedly cool. Despite booking a table for 9 and arriving on time the table was not ready and our hostess seemed to resent our arrival. We were told that they were short staffed and we would have to get our own drinks. We also had to go in search of our own menus having been given one between 9 of us. The food was excellent and the helpings plentiful but the meal was spoilt by the atmosphere. However, the worst was yet to come... When we came to pay we found that they do not accept credit or debit cards! There is a small handwritten notice on the till to this effect. I find this unbelievable in the 21st century and it was just very fortunate that one of our party was carrying a chequebook. Next time I will keep motoring on past the Jack Mytton Inn and definitely do not recommend a visit there.'
