Peterborough Pubs : Bogarts pub in Peterborough 'This establishment was formerly known as the Ostrich. It became Bogarts in the early 1980's, and for a time was run by a Pete Waller. The pub is currently closed awaiting refurbishment.' Report
Peterborough Pubs : The Brewery Tap pub in Peterborough 'This is the brewery tap for Oakham Ales, brewers of JHB which won Champion Beer of Britain in 2001. A former job centre, the place was tastefully redesigned to feature a two-floored bar, the largest brew-pub in Europe.
Excellent selection of real ales complimented by fantastic Thai cuisine. Late license on Friday & Saturday evenings. Handy for bus & rail stations.' Report
Woodston Pubs : The Palmerston Arms pub in Woodston near Peterborough 'A small street-corner local dating back 400 years or so. One of the few pubs in the country to dispense all beers, up to 12 at a time, direct from the cask. No keg fonts, no messing. Quality conversation and real ale. Also, real cider, Belgian bottled beers & a large selection of malt whiskies. Twice local CAMRA pub of the year, and in the running again!' Report
Peterborough Pubs : The Peacock pub in Peterborough 'Large, friendly two-roomed pub opposite the football stadium, hence very lively on match days. Good selection of drinks and snacks. Relax and be entertained by Pat, the pub dog!' Report
Peterborough Pubs : College Arms pub in Peterborough 'Mega cheap booze of the kiddie varieties, ie alcopops. Cheap fizzy lager & smoothflow beers. If you prefer good quality real ale and service with a smile, you need to be somewhere else!
You can usually rely on Wetherspoons to run a pretty tight ship, and there are some excellent examples around the country, ie Babbington in Derby & Time Piece in Dewsbury. This particular outlet is sinking fast!' Report
Sheffield Pubs : Cask & Cutler pub in Sheffield 'Excellent! No need to go anywhere else, except that there are another three pubs equally as good as this within spitting distance.' Report
Sheffield Pubs : Kelham Island Tavern pub in Sheffield 'ditto.' Report
Peterborough Pubs : Hand & Heart pub in Peterborough 'This pub is an absolute gem, and one of my personal favourites. A small back-street two roomed local that has not changed at all since being re-built in the 1930's, it is deservedly listed in CAMRA's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors. A regular Good Beer Guide entry also, there are 5 hand-pumps dispensing John Smiths and 4 ever changing guest ales.
On the keg side, there are the usual selection of lagers etc, but more importantly, probably the best pint of Guinness outside of Dublin. There is also a good range of malt whiskies to sample.
The front bar is the main stay of the pub, where the regulars call in on a daily basis to exchange friendly banter. Alternatively, chill in the quieter back lounge or sit by the serving hatch in the lobby. If the weather is fine, enjoy the extensive garden out the back.
The pub is the true centre of the community and several thousands of pounds have been raised for local causes in the last couple of years. Always something going on and always friendly.' Report
Woodston Pubs : Coal Heavers Arms pub in Woodston near Peterborough 'The Coalie is a delightful back street boozer, combining community spirit with rural charm.
Despite the efforts of the Luftwaffe in 1940, a pub has been operational here for umpteen years. However, it's fortunes changed drastically for the better in 2002, when the pub was purchased and renovated by the Individual Pub Company.
The Coalie is similar to it's close neighbour, the Palmerston Arms. The pub offers a choice of eight real ales and one real cider or perry on hand-pump; an extensive selection of Belgian blttled beers an a reasonable selection of malt whiskies.
The bar is a single room, with stone floor and simple but comfortable furnishings. The pub is for friendly conversation. There are no TV's, Juke Boxes, Bandits or Pool Tables, although occasionally live music is featured. A large garden provides a rural setting for the popular bi-annual beer festivals held in spring and autumn.' Report
Millfield Pubs : Eight Bells pub in Millfield near Peterborough 'A fairly decent pub, unfortunately run by "Cranky Frankie", and unless he likes you..forget it!' Report
Walton Pubs : Royal Oak Inn pub in Walton near Peterborough 'Popular two-roomed roadside pub, with large garden at rear. Very busy at week-ends with footballers and fans when live games are shown, yet remains very friendly.
Three real ales at competitive prices, a good selection of other beers, food also available. ' Report
Woodston Pubs : The Cherry Tree pub in Woodston near Peterborough 'Sorry, but this is another pub I just can't understand! Popular with live music, pool table in separate area, good value food, very friendly licensees. So what's the problem?
Well for a start, you will need a mortgage for a pint of real ale, which I find hard to believe when you have the Coalie or Palmy both less than 5 minutes away at 30p a pint cheaper!
However, I don't mind paying more, what with the music etc, if the beer is good, but it ain't. One minute - nice cool tasty pint. Next pint - warm and like vinegar yuk! This happens everytime friends and I call in there so I have now given up. In my personal opinion he recycles his lunchtime slops back into the cask and thats what ruins the beer!' Report
