Southampton Pubs : Wellington Arms pub in Southampton 'Poorly kept expensive beer. Pub has a tendancy to close without warning and not open for several days. Still surviving on the reputation of the previous landlord who kept top rate beers and created one of the best pubs in Southampton.

Southampton Pubs : Waterloo Arms pub in Southampton 'Well kept, good value Hopback beers with 1-2 guest beers. Also good range of Gales wines, Kronenburg, Stowford Press, wines by the 1/4 bottle. Large family (non smoking) conservatory. Friendly staff with old style pub atmosphere.' Report
Southampton Pubs : The Platform Tavern pub in Southampton 'Wonderful atmospheric pub seconds from the town quay and the IOW ferry. 3+ well kept real ales plus Stella, Stowford Press, Guiness etc. Latino/African/Surfie decor, a gas fire, ratty old leather sofas and a pile of the days newspapers adds a now almost unique (Bohemina) atmosphere. Live Blues/Jazz music 2-3 times per week and a great alternative CD collection.
Stunning, reasonably priced, non tradiotnal food and a renound Sunday lunch makes The Platform Tavern one of the best kept secrets in the Middle of Southampton.
Go try it, you will not be disappointed.' Report
Southampton Pubs : The Cowherds Inn pub in Southampton 'We were ushered off a table and told to 'go drink at the bar unless you are eating' (we hadn't decided by then)! Overpriced, dull beers, with a 'theme pub' feel oldie worldy atmosphere. ' Report
Totton Pubs : The Cross Keys pub in Totton near Southampton 'Newly refurbished youth pub. loud music, football, overpriced lagers and one 'real' ale. Pub requires a doorman on the weekend which speaks volumes about the clientele. Onfortunately it is probably the best pub in Totton... there's a reason they call it Rotten Totton.' Report
Cadnam Pubs : Sir John Barleycorn Inn pub in Cadnam near Southampton 'Within spitting distance of the M27 Jn.1, highly rated for food, couple of 'real' ales plus the usual lagers and spirits. Not a cheap pub but good value compared to the other Sir John Barleycorn by the Rufus Stone. Cosy but low ceilings and small rooms can make the pub quite claustrophobic' Report
Winsor Pubs : The Compass Inn pub in Winsor near Southampton 'An out of the way attrictive pub on the edge of the New Forest. Reasonable selection of 'New Forest priced' ales (although the quality sometimes fluctuates) and lagers. Pool room, bar and sperate smoking/non smoking restaurant. Superb good value food. If you can find this pub it's worth seeking out.' Report
Tiptoe Pubs : The Plough Inn pub in Tiptoe near Lymington 'Beautiful olde world pub with friendly staff. Well kept real ales with 3 ciders on tap when we went there. Large car park and beer garden. Only let down by the price of the beers (£5.65 for a Ringwood 49er and a Stella!)' Report
Botallack Pubs : The Queens Arms pub in Botallack near Penzance 'This gem of a find nestles in the tiny Hamlet of Botallack on the north-west coast of Cornwall right in the middle of the Tin Mining area and yards from the coastal walk. The pub is open all day and serves Cornish real ales, a Cornish Lager (which had my girlfriend swearing off Stella and Kroni for life) and stunning 'brewed for the pub' real ale called Tallack Skinner.
Food is served at lunch time and until 9pm and is equal to a top restaurant.. I think someone mentioned the Chef is the ex-Milky Bar, Hovis or Bovril kid but he's definatley found his nicke in cooking.
There's a small 1-2 person self contained apartment on the ground (not that you would be doing any eating in) but it does make it dangerously convenienct. We found it by staying at the local campsite (Treveylor) which is about 1/4 mile away. If you find yourself walking, climbing, nature watching in Cornwall and find yourself in the Tin Mining area, seek out The Queen's Arms in Botallack, it's a stunner.

Ashurst Pubs : The New Forest Hotel pub in Ashurst near Southampton 'A New Forest Fuller's pub located next to Ashurst railway station. Range of Fuller's beers, usual lagers, draught ciders etc. Good for family and food, beer garden overlooking the ofrest but next to busy/ish road.
Beers and lagers are the usual inflated New Forest prices with tap coke being a RIPOFF £3.30 a pint!! Would have rated the pub a 6/10 but the coke RIPOFF reduced my impresisons to a 4/10 (good for grockles, rubbish for locals)' Report
Ashurst Pubs : The New Forest Hotel pub in Ashurst near Southampton 'Have been back to the pub on several ocassions since writing the 'stunned at the coke price comments' and thought I'd adjust my thoughts. I am still mad as hell at the £3.30 for a point of tap coke but at least the pub is airy, lively without being busy (this is just after schools have returned) and has a pleasant atmosphere. I'd recommend it but beware of the pitfalls..' Report
