Sunderland Pubs : The Ivy House pub in Sunderland 'The Ivy House... the sacred secret retreat of the sixth formers nearby Catholic all girls' school and now also a really good night spot.
A wide range of real ales, the usual big brewery stuff, spirits and even the odd bottle of wine. Prices are reasonable, the decor traditional and the live music scene... improving every month!
Frequented by the very young (underage six formers! Shhh!) the young (students and the more mature punter who all rub along quite nicely.
Not a bad bar!' Report
East Boldon Pubs : Sleepers Public House pub in East Boldon 'I give this place a four out of the goodness of my heart alone, as its in my own village.
Walking in its like you've stepped back in time... right back to the 1980's! This pub isn't traditional its just neglected... really needs doing out a TOTAL refit!
Once you've manged to unstick yourself from the carpet and headed to the bar (one of the smallest I've ever had the misfortune to stand at for nearly 20 mins!) you a greeted by the usual fair, Carling, John Smiths, Woodpecker... bog standard stuff... coupled with the odd cheap spirit offer... its not exceptionally cheap nor is it expensive.
Pretty quiet during the week... used mostly by locals pre or post curry (there's an excellent Indian restaurant opposite)or as a place for a quick one before getting the metro (public underground/train) to Newcastle/Sunderland.
It is however quite a prolific venue on the local band scene... mostly rock (and not exactly first class!) so Sunday nights its usually packed to the rafters... sorry the fake 1980's rafters and venetian blinds!' Report
