Ipswich Pubs : The Arboretum pub in Ipswich 'Friendly bar staff, changing real ales (up to three in winter) and good food make this a favourite of mine. The decor is a bit weary but the warm welcome makes up for that. The first Friday of every month is Tapas night (with Spanish guitar accompaniment). There is a roast every Sunday lunchtime and the TV projector shows key sports events. I now walk past The Greyhound to get here.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Brewers Arms pub in Ipswich 'Sociable Greene King pub with small front bar and larger rear room with a pool table. Domino players, a monthly folk club and organised social events combine to give this utterly urban pub a village feel.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Dales pub in Ipswich 'My favourite Ipswich pub. At first glance this looks like an Estate house but it is notable for the quality of Steve's cooking and the affable crew of regulars at the bar. Four real ales (Greene King IPA and guests) are all kept excellently.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Fat Cat pub in Ipswich 'This amazing pub has a huge range of well-kept beers and only fails to score 10/10 because it is so popular that it is often uncomfortably crowded.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Greyhound pub in Ipswich 'A well-patronised drinkers pub with a full range of Adnams beers plus guests. The kitchen is excellent but they have been known to pad out portions rather than admit that they did not have enough of a dish to satisfy a large order.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The County pub in Ipswich 'Revamped in the summer of 2004 and relaunched as "County of Suffolk", this Adnam's Gastropub has a range of real ales but feels like a restaurant with beer rather than a pub with food. The tariff is high for the area, however, so whilst it is a good place for tapas any session drinking is better done across the road.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Grin & Rat pub in Ipswich 'Several real ales, friendly staff and a lively feel make this traditional urban pub a real pleasure.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Dove pub in Ipswich 'Like its sister pub (The Milestone) this is notable for having a wide range of real ales and chilled beers. It is much smaller than The Milestone and much quieter; more of a conversational pub. Customers can get 40% off food at the nearby Indian takeaway.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Water Lily pub in Ipswich 'No real ale, tired decor and a rough old pool table count against this old-fashioned local. Its greatest strength is its friendly helpful barman. Karaoke on Friday and Saturday. ' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Milestone Beer House pub in Ipswich 'Noisy smokey music venue with a huge range of beers and great bands. Occasional mini beer festivals add to the appeal.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Woolpack pub in Ipswich 'An essentially unmodernised coaching inn with lots of tiny rooms and a lively regular clientele. The quality of the (real) ales and the opportunity to sit outside are simply bonuses to this excellent establishment.' Report
Laxfield Pubs : Kings Head (aka the Low House) pub in Laxfield near Woodbridge 'Stepping into the Low House is like stepping back in time with none of the discomforts. Tucked away behind the churchyard, it has no bar. George and Maureen serve beers directly from barrels lined up around the edge of a rear taproom. Local musicians play informally in the small oak-benched rooms with the drinkers. Great food and open fires appeal in winter and a delightful garden beckons on summer days.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Salutation Inn pub in Ipswich 'Disappointing pub that looks like a traditional town alehouse but seems to be aimed primarily at the cooked lunch trade. On my last visit one real ale was vinegary and the other had an unusually weak taste. Quote from the publican: "I won't argue with you but you are wrong". The other seven members of my party shared my error.' Report
Bury St Edmunds Pubs : Dog & Partridge pub in Bury St Edmunds 'Pleasant Greene King pub near the brewery with a warm heritage feel.' Report
Bury St Edmunds Pubs : Queens Head pub in Bury St Edmunds 'An excellent range of beers but the volume of the music from the video jukebox makes this more a preclub pub than a comfortable boozer.' Report
Bury St Edmunds Pubs : The Fox pub in Bury St Edmunds 'Good beer, great food and five centuries of history wrapped around it. A very comfortable, welcoming pub.' Report
Bury St Edmunds Pubs : Old Cannon Brewery pub in Bury St Edmunds 'A perfect pub. We sought this out after tasting their beers at a festival. The beers are fresh flavoured and interesting. The building is a visual pleasure: check out the mysterious door to nowhere opposite the bar. Nice to see Mild served as a standard.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : Great White Horse Hotel pub in Ipswich 'A cavernous hall in the middle of an ancient coaching inn. The manager and the new owners appear to be at odds over which ales to stock ... the manager wishes to stay with Adnams (and good for him!).' Report
Ipswich Pubs : Mannings pub in Ipswich 'A fine old town pub with dark wood and a good selection of Adnams ales. The staff are friendly and helpful. And it offers good food all day.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Man On The Moon pub in Ipswich 'A Greene King house with a cavernous single room reminiscent of a holiday camp bar. The atmosphere is friendly, the huge sports screen can be seen clearly from all tables and the food is great. Real Ales are represented by IPA and a single guest, which are well kept.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Arboretum pub in Ipswich 'The new owners have redecorated, focused the three hand pumps on Adnams real ales and introduced an international range of premium bottled beers. The menu is now antipasti and handmade stonecooked pizzas. Service is friendly and attentive.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Belstead Arms pub in Ipswich 'Fresh bright estate pub offering traditional pub pot food: curries, chilis, and the like. The regulars are friendly.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Black Adder pub in Ipswich 'Now renamed Bar IV, this bar is deserted outside the weekend crush.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : Milestone pub in Ipswich 'This is the same pub as "The Milestone Beer House".' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The New York Exchange Bar pub in Ipswich 'DrumNBass cocktail bar.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Water Lily pub in Ipswich 'Now closed and shuttered, it seems unlikely that this will reopen in the face of competition from the Dove, Rat, and Creams.' Report
Ipswich Pubs : The Greyhound pub in Ipswich 'The kitchen is now run immaculately with excellent dishes presented by friendly staff. Timothy Taylor's Landlord is a regular guest beer that complements the 4-5 Adnams ales, Aspall's Cider, and all the usual suspects. ' Report
