Gelligaer Pubs : Harp Inn pub in Gelligaer near Hengoed
'Bit of a rough pub ... the locals that use it like it but there is a much nicer place at the top of the village less than half a mile away - The Cross Inn ... which is an old coaching inn. The Harp was also an old coaching inn (one dealt with north / south traffic and the other the east / west traffic) but was pulled down in Edwardian times. When it was pulled down, ancient ruins were found underneath and archaeologists working on the roman fort a hundred yards away determined that the ruins were of a 'brew house,' so beer had been served on the site as far back as roman times.'
