This user has reviewed the following pubs:
Malvern Pubs : The Red Lion pub in Malvern 'The Red Lion probably has to be the best bar in Malvern town centre, largely due to the lack of chavs. Large beer garden at the front which is great in the summer, but not much space and no music inside for the winter months.
Good selection of food, although a bit expensive.' Report
Malvern Pubs : Foresters Arms pub in Malvern 'The Forresters is a traditional locals' drinking pub.
The interior decor is shabby and outdated, but the locals are friendly, service is efficient and the prices are reasonable.
No food, but it's not really an eaters' pub anyway.' Report
Malvern Pubs : Bluebell Inn pub in Malvern 'The Bluebell is a typical managed house, with a large non-smoking food area, decent sized car park and drinks priced to leave you with pockets full of coppers.
Service is slow, which could be blamed on the odd pricing scheme.
Typical brewery menu - prawn cocktails and steaks all the way.
More of a place for a microwaved lasagne with your gran than a few pints with your mates.' Report
Malvern Pubs : Three Horseshoes pub in Malvern ''The Shoes' is a great pub for a summer afternoon, with a relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and a lovely secluded beer garden to the rear.
Service is very efficient and food is served at lunchtimes (possibly evenings as well).
A no-swearing policy is in operation which keeps the chavs at bay
Considerably better than the clinical Bluebell just down the road, my only complaint would be that in the evening you have to sit on one of the benches on the common in front of the pub to catch the sun.' Report
Welland Pubs : The Anchor Inn pub in Welland near Malvern 'I worked at the Anchor for a week and would never go back there. It's a classic example of a pub that thinks it's a restaurant, with half of the pub a dedicated non-smoking eating area, which has the atmosphere of a bed and breakfast.
There is an excessively extensive menu, but the claims of "everything being cooked fresh to order" are unsubstantiated, with tinned soup and rank pate being served. A lot of the starters could easily be eaten as a light main meal, although if you want to do this in the 'restaurant' there is a surcharge to cover the cost of the table linen.
Wednesday night is quiz night in the bar which I was instructed is fun, but feels more like an exam - all the tables around the bar are reserved for people taking part, and nobody dares talk or leave their seat for fear of being reprimanded by the sarcastic, domineering manageress.
I always thought a pub was supposed to be a place to go and relax; obviously the proprietors of the Anchor have other ideas.
Try the Pheasant, up the road.' Report
Malvern Pubs : Olivers Cafe Bar pub in Malvern 'A few years ago Olivers was the place to go, with DJs on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, occasional live bands, food at lunchtimes, cocktail pitchers, quizzes and theme nights, and Sky Sports shown on a projection TV.
Since a nightclub opened in Malvern, the dancefloor has become redundant and Olivers has been haphazardly 'refurbished' using different colours of wood and different carpets, in different styles.
Friday nights are still busy, but the air is hot and smoky, the staff seem to care more about getting drunk than serving, and the toilets are dirty and have been vandalized by the chavs who dominate the area around the pool table.
Tragically, dimming the lights and turning up the music still makes Olivers the most vibrant place to drink in Malvern.' Report
