Blackpool Pubs : Basils On The Strand pub in Blackpool 'My partner and I have stayed in about 6 hotels in Blackpool, about 20 overall and so I hope this review will enable those to have a better idea of the facilities and services The Strand actually offers!
The hotel was not too bad at all really - the only problem was the lies that were advertised via their website and the poor service that they offered. The room would have been OK for £50-60 a night for two people but not for what we paid.
We purchased an executive room for £90 a night and initially, they said it had a flat screen TV, power shower, and king size bed. The pictures of the rooms seemed to give it a large spacious look with chocolate bed spreads etc where in fact, they were no bigger or fancier than those at a Holiday Inn.
The TV's were not flat screen but were instead as small as you would get at a £20 a night B&B in Blackpool. The shower was rusty, weak and very temperamental, and some of the spot lights were not functioning at all.
Initially, we took all this on the chin – not wanting to be disheartened during our break…… until we were ready for bed when we discovered our king size bed was actually a king size duvet and sheet placed over two single beds that had been pushed together. What a joy that was to sleep on at night.
Finally, we were told at check in that the breakfast was served between 8:30 and 9:30 which is probably the shortest time we had been given during any of our stays in Blackpool. Nevertheless, we arrived at about 9:25 thinking this was just in time for our breakfast where in fact they had closed the kitchen saying that in fact that there was a 15 minute ‘last orders’ from 9:15 which we were not informed about.
At this point we put in a formal complaint at the reception which was answered back with that the TVs had been taken down a while before we booked and that we were in fact fortunate that we had been given a discounted rate (which was not even displayed on the website prices or the booking invoice) and that we stayed over a Thursday and Friday night which is not usual for Blackpool hotels.
All in all, it was not the worst hotel we had stayed in, but a large disappointment with all the lies and cons that were given. Not worth the money we paid at all.
